Re: SA Wednesday

  • Crossing my fingers for my undergrad basketball team as they play in the Elite Eight today... bring home the National Championship this year!

Daylight savings time is killing me, I feel like I am dragging myself out of bed every day :(

But the week is halfway over!!! YAY! And I'm going to see Casablanca tonight :)

  • Amanda,
I'm sure you saw my comment about the neon yellow the other night.  Maybe it looked gold in person but it looked like my highlighter on TV.

The mens' team had a lot of injuries and it doesn't help that they started the season with one coach and then got the "real" coach back about seven games in.

I'm so excited about "Casablanca" tonight.  I love that song "As Time Goes By", especially if it's the Jimmy Durante version.

Don't worry.  I started watching them towards the end but worried the whole time that I was going to jinx them since I hadn't watched all year long.  Yeah, I'm that person.

That's my favorite version too. In fact, I think I asked our videographer to include that on one of the chapters of our wedding video.

Is it bad that I am in my office researching a fall trip before my busy season, for H and I to try and go have a "do-over" on our honeymoon in a city we both like better than where we went? I feel crappy that we both allowed one day of our honeymoon to taint the whole experience, but it was pretty sad that we both woke up the day before we were ready to come home and decided to jusst stay in the hotel and watch TV.

Where are you guys thinking of going?
  • Just got the call... my dress came in! YAY!!!!
  • Yea, the Baylor uniforms are pretty obnoxious, sorry Amanda!!! Yay for more weddings coming up, and for the arrival of your dress Carrie! I loved having mine on again yesterday for our photoshoot, and really am struggling with what to do with it now. It's gonna sit in a box never to be seen again, or I could recycle to another bride. But, I don't think I can let it go... :-( Wendi, it breaks my heart you didn't enjoy your honeymoon, or at least San Francisco and wine country. We're going in back in June, and could literally go to Napa/Sonoma/Russian River like twice a year. That said, I saw your comment earlier in the week about how commercial it is, and that's the exact reason we're extremely particular about the wineries we visit. Also, Chelsea will have a single sneak peak up on her blog tomorrow, and I think the full post will run Monday. And, Matt actually really enjoyed himself. Big score for me!!! That said, it breaks my heart we weren't smart enough to actually use them as our wedding photogprahers.

Stephie, honestly it wasn't bad til our day "in" San Francisco, when we were so caught off guard by how much everything was costing us. Being the super budgeter that I am, I felt like we were on target for staying on budget til we spent a day as tourists there.

We liked Napa, LOVED Sonoma (10 of my 12 bottles of wine are from Sonoma), and the drive up the coast was just breathtaking.

Thursday we decided to go to Pier 39/Fisherman's Wharf, which was not crowded at all thanks to the cold rainy weather. After visitng the penny arcade museum, and seeing the sea lions, it just went downhill. We ate at Scoma's, where my parents and the locals all recommended. For the price we paid ($130 for LUNCH!), my crab risotto should not have been bland with a fishy aftertaste. Ed's crab cakes were the only good thing out of the 4 things we ordered. And the service there was a little disappointing, they more or less just wanted us to pay and be done. Dinner wasn't much better (I liked it, but I still don't think it was worth what we paid.) The restaurant did have great service and our waiter was outstanding there though.

I will say I was impressed with Bourbon and Branch, which is the speakeasy they visited on the Bachelor this season. After that, we went to Haight and Ashbury (Hippyland) and had some good house-made beer and cider at a fraction of what we were paying all over downtown. Also, a crackie approached us to buy some weed off him and I was scared.

Friday, we were so over the expense of SF and we were both talking about how we missed New Orleans, so we are probably going there in Fall.

While you are at Napa, Stephie, definitely check out V Sattui and Franciscan. We liked both of those out of the 4 we visited there. Are you visiting Sonoma too?

  • Kylie-
As much hate as it gets all over the boards, I cannot wait to do a TTD session. FI is a photographer and he has so many ideas that I can't take it away from him :)
My dress is very fitted and lace (granted FI doesn't know any of this), and we are going to go to the town I grew up in and my parents own land and I'm going to do a hike through the hills and through the creeks. Very earthy and hippie (very us).

Plus, my mom's dress got lost when her mother moved houses years ago and she said she was never even really that sad about it.
  • I just had the sweetest conersation turn awkard.

I got a call about helping a local military family plan their daughter's birthday; her dad will be coming home to surprise her. After agreeing to help out and donate, the FRG (Family Readiness Group) volunteer told me that I should tell my Hubs to go to the VA because they give out Viagra and consider that a disability worth $. I wanted to respond that we didn't have a problem with that but abstained.  I went from happy tears to damn near giggles in a matter of seconds.

I would have loved to do something like this, but part of why I probably can't let the dress go, is because of how much I paid for it. There's a lot of hard-earned money hanging there, and ruining it kills me. The Cotton Mill was pretty dirty yesterday, and I was pretty uneasy!
  • Re: TTD.  I really thought I would donate my dress to a charity or something, but I have a hard time feeling unattached to it.  I'm hoping someday I'll be able to let it go so someone who can't afford a beautiful dress can have one, but for now I'm happy to have it in my closet.  =)

Also, I want to do B&G pics AND Pinterest encouraged me to take a picture of my daughter in my dress.  So there's that...

We decided against the Cliff House, and I cancelled our reservations at the last minute. Ed was in a "do what we want without plans" mood by that day. I am regretting it, cause I was drooling over their menu. We did have a good meal near our hotel the day we got back from Napa. I didn't know they made chipotle infused vodka til then, and I have to say the chipotle margarita (and the mac & cheese) I had at Tipsy Pig was amazing!
