Hotel Location

Ladies, I need your assistance in deciding where to get a hotel block.  My ceremony is on Mt. Royal Blvd and my reception is at the Edgewood Club.  Its eight miles apart, and I just have no clue where to go.

There are no hotels within walking distance of the reception, which would probably be my first choice.  There is nothing that close to the church.  The people using the hotel will mostly be my college/grad school friends from out of town.  My other option was downtown/strip, because it would be a more central location.  A lot of my OOT guests will be flying, so I want to make it easiest on them to get places, have fun in the city, have options for breakfast, lunch, etc and get to the airport.  We will obviously be facilitating them getting to the ceremony and reception.

Where would you recommend? Thanks!

I finally picked my hotels the other day (almost all of our guests are from OOT). We chose 2 hotels close to our reception site, as that is where they will be heading after the reception. It is also fairly close to the South Side if they want to take a cab over there after the reception to have drinks. Both hotels are in Oakland.

Be careful of hotels in downtown. They are all really nice, but you will definitely be paying a premium ($200+ a night for most). Did you check out the sheraton in station square? That might be a good location as well.

Ok never mind. I just checked at it was over $300 for one night at the Sheraton.

I checked with Cambria Suites by Consol...they were only $119/night and the rooms were fairly large (all had a pull out sofa along with two beds) an indoor pool, etc.  It is $14/night to park, but you have in and out privileges, and most of my OOT guests won't have cars.

They said rates are dependent on the Steelers schedule, but since the Steelers haven't released a schedule yet, they said they would honor that price even if the Steelers do have a home game.  Its Pitt/ND game weekend though, so a few hotels downtown/North Side are completely booked already.

I really wish there were a hotel in Regent Square, because thats really close to the reception site and there are bars.  Maybe I'll pick two as well...one downtown and maybe one closer to the reception site....there just aren't any hotels really close to the reception site.

We have one of our room blocks at the Sheraton in Station Square, and our rate is $169 per night... but this varies based on a lot of different factors i.e. time of year, weekend... etc. You can never go based on their advertised rate on their website - hotels will almost always give you a lower rate for a block!

Oh wow! That is impressive. I know that there will always be a cheaper rate, but I am surprised it was that much cheaper. The date I checked for was the beginning of March 2012, which is usually a much cheaper time of year for hotels. I think Marriott only gives you 20% for the group rate.

I have found that hotels give much cheaper rates.  I should have blocked rooms sooner though!  Even though the guys told me yesterday that there were rooms available, the sales person told me today that they are all booked up, because of the Pitt/ND game...boo...who would have thought you needed a hotel more than 6 months out?  Gah, I don't know where to get a block!

I am having my reception at Edgewood and my guests are going to stay at the Double Tree Monroeville.  If you book there, and 20 guests book a room, you and your fiance get a free nights stay!  They have a shuttle too for you if you want to pay for one.
