I've been a BM many times and I have NEVER been told what shoe to wear.  I've been given guidelines (color, open toe, strappy, etc.).  But never told to buy 'X' shoe.

I find it quiet odd actually.  Shoes are so personal.  Unlike dresses you can not alter a shoe to fit you better.  The shape and size of and shoe and it's heel can make a huge difference for someone people.

Most dresses do not cause physical pain for someone.  Shoes on the other hand can cause back, leg, foot, toe, heel, ankle, etc pain for a woman.   Plus if they are like me and only wear heels a few times a   year, walking down an aisle in a skinny, high heel might cause a fall because they are not use to walking that way.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
