Get reception Dress or not?

I've been debating for months if I should stay in the same wedding dress for the ceremony and reception or should I get another. I'm worried about people stepping on it during the reception on the dance floor or it dragging. I thought about having it altered to make the train detach for after the ceremony but it sounds expensive. This is my dress if anyone wants to see.

  • Have you considered getting a bustle put in?  Maybe a 1 point over bustle on a train like that?  No dragging with a bustle.  Oh, and after the wedding I went to this past weekend ... on the dance floor, people seem to be aware of the bride and her dress.  You know your crowd though, so I'd definitely do the bustle and then go from there.

  • Do you really want to change out of your gorgeous wedding dress?? You only get to wear it once!! I would say no. Keep it on, get a bustle and enjoy your one and only wedding dress.
  • I don't understand why you would want to change out of it. It's a gorgeous dress that I'm sure you spent a lot of money on. I would want to stay in it as long as I can. You only get to wear it once.

  • I never heard of bustled! Thank you! It probably saves a lot of money too. My MOH mentioned putting it on my finger but I didn't like it. That seems a lot better. No I don't want to take it off. I love the dress so much, I actually got it from a small off-brand store it only costed me $575 then I later found out online it cost $900. Thank you Yelp for that LOL! But it still was expensive.

When should I take care of alternations? I have 7 months to go but I want to add red beading into the lace bc I love red and its apart of our colors.

  • I agree that your dress is beautiful, and I'm glad you've decided to wear it! I started doing alterations 2 months before the day, but the best thing is to call whoever will be doing your alterations, let them know what you want, and when they think you should bring it. I'd say make sure to allow enough time to have at least 2 fittings.
