Bahahahaha, I should.

I understand that they need someone in the office, but at the same time...I would be gone from 12 - 2, which is the slowest time of the day, and really, we could just say that that was our "lunch hour". Nobody would be shocked.

• Bay that is frustrating! I understand the anxiety, but I'd probably go for full time. Like Snippy said, you need a break. I'd rather be anxious and overworked only for the fall and have winter off. I'm biased though because I love winter and Christmas and usually try to have nothing going on so that I can enjoy the holidays.
• Bay, you are a good employee, just lay it out on the table for them. If you're only gone a few hours a day, I don't see why they would freak out about it. And if they do, I'm sure you could get another job easily.

The school is for the future, your church job is the present. Don't let the present hold you back from your future.

This is so true. This was never meant to be a "forever" job. Just something to get me through grad school.

What bothers me is when coworkers (mainly our IT guy) say things like "Well, this COULD be your forever job" or "Oh, like you'll do better someplace else." I didn't go to school for two degrees to be a secretary for the rest of my life. This job isn't fulfilling in any way. I don't want to be doing this forever.

• WTF?? That's awful. No jackholes. No. I don't want this forever. But thanks for being supportive! *kick in the nuts*
• Heck, even if it means you take a waitress job for a bit. You can make GOOD money waitressing (and it works well with school hours) if you are at the right place.

• Bay, I agree with Habs and everyone else. Would going full-time be every day for two hours, or just 2 or 3 days? Even if it is five days a week, I don't think being gone 12-2 is a huge deal. Can you work an hour later or come in an hour earlier to make up the time? And then, yeah, the other hour can totally pass as a lunch hour.

I honestly don't know if I'd go full time or just take the winter class. I'd be more inclined to take the Winter class if going full-time would totally stress you out. I'm someone who would rather spread the stress out (and thus be less stressed) than try to pack everything into one semester and be OMG crazy busy. I dunno though.

• Rach, you probably would have been able to get it through had you ordered first thing this morning, before they ran all their shipments for the day. Now you have to wait for it to process and then for them to run the shipping again. Boo. :(
• Where did you order it from Rach? I just saw a kegerator at Sam's Club the other day in stock. I think that's what you talked about getting, I'm too lazy to go back and read.

• HELLO!!! I am so jealous that Snips is in Boston and you guys get to have another GTG. :( I'm down here in stupid Tennessee without any furniture. Hrmph!

Oh well. Anyway, Bay, I hope that school stuff works out. What are you trying to pursue right now? A masters? Is it in all that history junk that you just love? :P
• MP -- Yup! MA in American history.

I want to have lunch now, but the ladies who come in to clean are still here, and I don't want to start messing up the kitchen until they're gone. Bah. Everyone else left about 2 hours ago.

Rach - I bet you'll get it in time. UPS will probably arrive before 1 p.m. I get a lot of UPS packages at work and our "next day" packages arrive by 10 or 11 a.m. I'd hope that with this much lead time and your preference for next day shipping, it'll come in their early shipments, not their afternoon shipments.

Maybe? Hopefully? I'm no shipping expert.

ETA: But yeah, if you can change the address, do it to be safe. I don't know if you can do that. Clearly I'm all about decisive answers today ;-)

• The thing that sometimes annoys me with Amazon is if you're ordering from a seller that's NOT Amazon, it can take them awhile for them to process orders and ship things. Amazon itself is super quick, but its third party sellers aren't always that way.

• Bay, what do you want to do with it? Teach? Just curious.

Speaking of school? I just checked my bill from the bursar. I knew that through my fellowship while my tuition would be waived, I'd still have to pay fees (which I didn't have to pay for my masters at VT, but whatever). What I didn't expect was that the fees for the semester would be $1600!! $810 of it is an extra $54/credit hour of engineering courses. Hello, I'm a freaking engineering student!! I have to register for 15 credit hours of engineering courses (including dissertation), so that's always $810 per semester until I finish. I kind of want to call bullshiiit. I mean, I know I should be grateful, and I could just be paying for all of school. I just didn't expect that bill. I really need to sit down and figure out a budget with the hubby. Thank goodness he got a job and can support me now.
• MP, either teach or do historical writing.

• Neat! If you get to do your thesis in the spring, will you be finished then?
• It won't take me one semester to do my thesis. It'll probably be a year. So I'm hoping by Spring of 2014.

• Oh yeah, that's about how long theses take for engineers. I am just not as familiar with how liberal arts grad school works.

Sorry to interject, I lurk around here a bit but mainly hang to the GIS board. I figured I might be able to be a bit of help today, as I do work in shipping.

Rachers-you have a few options. If you're not too far from a FedEx warehouse, you can call FedEx and get directed to your local destination terminal, and ask them to hold it for pickup (as opposed to letting it get put on a delivery truck), and then go to the warehouse and get it.
There is also a chance FedEx or Amazon might let you redirect your destination address (either FedEx can make a note on the shipment, or Amazon can reprint the packing label if it hasn't been picked yet.) You'd have to call Amazon, though, and insist on them reaching out to the origin warehouse, as I doubt they'll let you do it online and CS in general is usually clueless.
Good luck on your awesome purchase!

I took a bet that you'd be near one, Rachers, seeing as Arkansas is the FedEx (and Walmart, and part of my company) capital of the world it seems. I've had them do this with furniture before, so if you get any trouble about having them hold it, just call back until you get someone who's willing to be a bit more helpful.

• Hello. One load of laundry's all i had time for before peak electric cut in, so I feel you Stacks. Bay, I'd go full time-those accelerated classes are killers, and you won't have had any time off.
Rach, I hope you get it in time.
