Help! FI hates wedding colors! PIP

For the last 3 months we have been talking about having a red, black and white wedding.  Red is my favorite color and I found the pictures below which really inspired me.  I LOVE the black with red accents!  But I showed FI these pics again and he said they reminded him of a funeral, they were too dreary, down in the dumps and dark, and look gothic.  He has decided he does NOT want black as a color. 

I love red, any suggestions for colors (preferably bright, summer colors) to go with red?  Or maybe I need to come up with a completely different color scheme...  UGH!  Well, at least it's still early and I ha ve plenty of time, but still, it's very disappointing!

    How about focusing on red and white, with some other colors?

    We're doing monochromatic shades of burgundy (sorta red), gold and cream. You could always put in the gold to soften the vibrant red but still throw some small hints of black.

    Did you want the black linens?  I think you could still do red/white/black, but maybe a good compromise would be to not do the black linens?

    What about red with aqua?  I've seen it before, and it looked great.  Wish I had pics to share!

    I *LOVE* the combination of red, orange and fuchsia!  Perfect color combination for a summer wedding.  Or red, orange and green for a fall wedding.

    Ooh, that red and yellow inspiration board is really cute!  I like the red/black combo, but it may be a little dark for a summer wedding.

    I love bright bold colors together like reds, oranges, yellows, fuschias etc. Maybe go for bold colors and a white or cream or gold? I'm sorry that FI suddenly dislikes the black. We are doing black and white with yellow accents and it's not gothic at all! More classy :)

    Ooooh the blog "Snippet & Ink" (www.snippetandink.com) is perfect to help you...here's a link to a real wedding post with summery red theme, and here are just a few inspiration boards I picked up from it.  You can search 'red' and see TONS of gorgeous ideas, I loved this website when I was picking colors.  Good luck!

    I think you could pull it off by doing mainly red and white with black as an accent color.  Or replace black with navy.

    What about replacing the black with chocolate brown?  Brown is a softer/warmer color, and would look gorgeous with red and white or ivory.

    I like the red, white, and light blue or yellow too.  :)

    CCBelle, I was totally gonna say Red and Aqua!! It is realllly pretty, and definitely good for summer.  I love the idea of red, black and white as well, and personally love your color scheme Alexa...I don' think its funeral-ish at all!!

    inarey, yes I think it is the black linens that he is especially objecting to so we def can't do those

    I was looking at hot pink and tangerine, but he said those colors were too bright - I LOVE bright colors!  Apparently he wants pastels, but I'm not usually a fan of them.  Grrrrr.

    EK, red and white with tiny touches of black is definitely an option we may choose.  But maybe he's not a fan of red, either.

    Krystalynne, I know, I fell in love with the black and red!  And I don't think it looks funeral-ish or gothic either.  Word I would use to describe it are modern and sophisticated.

    LOVE red and robin's egg blue or similar shade. Very similar to some of the inspiration boards above- very summery!

    i had the same problem with my FI. He hates Teal and thinks black is too morbid. I got to keep the colors I wanted and let him have complete control over a few other things. I got to pick the colors and he got to pick what I am going to walk down the aisle to, his wedding band, and the favors.
