Late Night Snacks

So I'm torn on this topic and am curious what others are doing.  Our venue does not allow us to bring in any food.  They do offer things such as chex mix or mini pizzas for snacks during the dance, for $x per person.  FI's opinion is that most weddings don't have snacks later or they aren't eaten.  He also thinks, since people will leave at various times during the night that we will be wasting money if we pay $x per person based on our headcount.  Our dinner is being served at 6:00 p.m. with the dance ending at midnight.  I just don't want hungry or unhappy guests.  What would you do?  What are you doing for your weddings?

    We are doing cocktail hour, dinner and cake.

    I agree with your FI. Don't spend the extra $ on snacks. Everyone will enjoy.

    what PP said. there's no need to spend the extra money! everyone will be fine with dinner and cake!

    we are doing cocktail hour, dinner and cake (and our package comes with mini ice cream cones). sometimes, i feel there's too much food at a wedding and i get stuffed!

    Agree with PP.  We are doing cocktail hour at 5, dinner at 6:30 and cake at 7:30.  Reception ends at 11.  My brother recently got married and they did french fries with a toppings bar (cheese, bacon, etc).  Honestly, it ended up making me feel sick and sluggish.  Their reception also went until 1am which since their ceremony was at 3pm (there was a break between the ceremony and reception) it was a long day and most guests had left. 

    If you do it, I'd probably cut your headcount by 1/3 to 1/2 for the number of people around for the snack.  I'd personally save the money though and go to a nice dinner with your husband on your HM.  No one will miss it but you'll appreciate the nice dinner!

    We're doing some snacks but it wasn't $X pp - we were able to select some snacks at a specific cost.  We figured people would have left during the reception so our snack selection was designed to feed a smaller group.

    Ok, thanks everybody!  I feel better now.  I think we will scrap the food later.  Maybe people can just eat more cake if they need it!

    Yep, you're fine! Most dinners at wedding are big portions anyway. And like you said, they can always have more cake :)

    We are providing late night foods (chips and salsa and veggies and dip) but they were a set price for a tray.  We aren't getting much because we figured most people wouldn't eat it but I always appreciate a little snack after dancing :)

    We're not bothering with snacks. We are having a dessert table with our buffet style dinner, and the venue leaves that set up until they run out so people can always go have cake or pasteries at that point.

    In your situation, I definitely wouldn't bother.  If you have any sort of dessert bar, just ask them to leave that out until 10pm or so for guests that want to graze on something.  Even still, not a big deal - most adults know how to go from dinner through midnight without eating again!

    For us, we're bringing everything in, so it's no big deal for us to add in a late night snack.  We're bringing pizza from our favorite pizza place.

    We're doing a dessert table AND late night snacks (which I think is too much, but MIL insists on a dessert table, so...). Our tasting is on Tuesday (!!!), but right now we're pretty set on passing mini-milkshakes and ice cream sandwiches on the dance floor at around 11:30pm. We'll probably only order enough for half the guests, though - I'd expect most of the older guests to have left by that time, anyway.
