Need to vent - DJ - UGH! (sort of long)

Well, first let me say hello, knotties and happy Friday!

New to this board, not to the Knot (I usually hang out at Etiquette, LOL)

Sooo.  I need to rant for a sec, and also request some advice.

We booked our DJ (voted #1 in CT by Knotties for a few years now - Music in Motion) - back in December.  Our wedding is August 28 of this year.  We booked at our first meeting, without interviewing others, because these guys come highly recommended, our venue has them listed as a preferred vendor, and they usually get good reviews.

So, we're guaranteed at that meeting that we will have the same DJ throughout, barring a major emergency.  Sweet.  That put us at ease.  The owner books us with his top DJ (lots of experience, great rep, highly recommended on his own merits) and we're thrilled.  Deposit is paid, contracts signed, and we're good to go.

DJ calls and leaves his cell number and friends me on FB - great.  Two ways to get in contact, I'm feeling even more confident.

Fast-forward to about two or three weeks ago - I get an e-mail from the DJ company saying it's time to set up the final meeting before the wedding and it needs to be scheduled immediately.  Okay.  So I call and I get the big brush-off from the owner.  He asks me to call back at the end of the month because he's so busy and doesn't know what his August schedule looks like, or I can contact my DJ directly because he doesn't handle his schedule.  Um, okay.

So, I wait a couple weeks because they are so busy and find that I lost the DJ's cell number (oops!) and decided to send him a FB message this morning.

I tell him we're looking forward to sitting down with him, comfortable that we're in good hands, and that we've heard nothing but great things.

His response?  "Kerry, I am so sorry, but [the owner] has me booked for another wedding that day.  Please call him for further details."

UM, WHAT!?!

So I put a call in to the owner at 8 AM today and am still waiting to hear back.  I did tell the owner that I expect a call today in order to discuss this issue and hopefully come to a mutually satisfactory agreement.

But anyway - I know the rational thing to do is wait and see what this guy has to say, but I'm not only pretty angry, but worried that we're stuck with this company (with 35 days til the wedding everyone else has gotta be booked) and wondering if they're going to be able to come through for us on the day of.  As of now, we have a deposit paid, but no solid DJ booked for that date.  And no one bothered to let us know of this!!!!  Because of that, I'm already trying to line up other options.  I'm pretty disgusted with how unprofessional they have been and are being.

Any suggestions on good DJ's (or at this point, bands) for me to try?

Thanks, everyone!

Wow that is really obnoxious.  I would be very annoyed that they did not tell you.

We used Powerstation Events, they were great and we picked out our DJ...Charlie S...and worked with him the whole time.  He was amazing and had the perfect playlist for us!

Sorry to hear about that!  Hope it works out!

I'm using Mike(the owner) from Music in Motion. I'm very surprised that he was so rude to you. My two FSILs both used Mike and he was awesome at both of their weddings. So far he has been very pleasant but after reading your post I'm getting a little concerned. I'm sure things will work out for you since they have over 10 DJs on staff. Let us know how it turns out.

Wowwww- that is so frustrating! I'm sorry this is happening to you with such short notice!
    Definitely keep us posted.

Just in case.... We're using After Hours out of Enfield http://www.afterhoursdj.com/
There's an availability link on their website to check your date.

    Good luck!!

Thanks for the advice and support, everyone!

Looks like it is all worked out - still not thrilled about it because (for me and FH anyway) it feels like we're down to the wire and the less stress the better at this point.

Anyway, I finally got in touch with Mike and it turns out it was a computer glitch.  My biggest fear was that we were drifting out in la-la land with no booked DJ, but we actually were accidentally assigned to someone else.  (Phew!)

Mike was very nice and polite and he made me feel a lot better about it all - we're sticking with the DJ we were assigned and, like Mike said, if we aren't 100% happy, he'll switch our original DJ back to our wedding.

    I'm so relieved, LOL!

glad it worked out, but if you guys were promised your original DJ and you still want him, i would insist on it, especially if you had it in writing.  it sounds to me like they double-booked him after you guys booked, so you should have first choice (or let them prove that they booked him with someone else before you hired them, and then take some $$ off or something since they aren't giving you what you were promised).

Glad everything seemed to work out, but
    Just a question. . .
Did your contract have the specific DJ?

I thank goodness it worked out Music in Motion is our dj's and they have been great at many events we have been to so that is why we picked then, not keen on Powerstation they where too loud. the music was not great and the dj a bit unorganized it seemed. Not sure who it was, just made a note to steer clear.

i'm glad everything worked out for you...we used Music in Motion, and they were fabulous...I would have hated for there to be a bad review about them.
