Northern NJ DJ/Photog/Video Pricing...!

Hi, everyone!
I am writing to my fellow Northern New Jersey brides to get a feel for the average pricing of DJ, photography and video services in our area. We are having our ceremony at 6pm at the Tides Estate in North Haledon, then the cocktail hour begins at 630. So, we'll need music for 5.5 hours, and photos/video for 6-8 hours. What are some of the price ranges that you guys are booking for these services? What is a good price? Average price?
Thanks for your help! Enjoy planning :)

Re: Northern NJ DJ/Photog/Video Pricing...!

  • DJ and uplighting - $2,000 Video - $3,000 Photography - $4,000. These are off the top of my head but I think they're accurate. I have seen a wide range of prices though.
  • We're doing a band so I can't help you on the DJ, but depending on what you expect and what you want to include (a live performer, up lighting, etc.) I tend to hear between $1k and $2k.

Photography, it depends on what you want included and the level of quality you aspire to have for your photos.  In this area, you need to spend about $3k including an album.  Robert Wayne Photography and Jason Rhee are two good photographers in this range.  The reality is you can spend much more for a photographer that offers you a "must have" look.  Or you can pick one up from CraigsList for about $1k.

We're not doing professional video (a friend and a tripod are good enough for our needs), but you can get pretty good quality for about $2k.  Of course, like photography, you can spend as much as you want to.
  • $750 DJ - Friend for cocktail/reception + lighting

$1600 Photographer - RyoNo Photo with free e-session, 2nd shooter, all-day, pics on disc

    $1500 Videographer - GT Modern Creations with 2 shooters, all-day, 3 DVDs & highlight.

Our DJ price is ridiculously low because it's a DJ who is also a friend, so he is giving us a wicked deal. I'd probably pay over $1500 for the same elsewhere.
  • DJ-$1,600
    PHOTOGRAPHER-$3,100
    VIDEOGRAPHER-$2,000
Visit The Nest! BabyFruit Ticker BabyFetus Ticker
  • DJ & Uplighting - $2400

    Photographer - $2800

And we haven't booked a videographer because I'm still trying to talk FI into having one.

  • DJ and uplighting-  We are using a DJ that doesn't offer uplighting (its a friend of a friend and being paid for as a wedding gift) so we used a lighting company.  All together it was $1600

Photo- $2300 for Jason Rhee, all day shooting, an album, 2 parent albums, 3 11x14 prints, all 4x6 prints, 50 thank you cards, and DVD with rights

Video- $1100, Martin's Video.  2-11 pm, one camera, 3 copies.

DJ - Still shopping this so I'm not sure yet. I think we are going to go with ESP DJ Entertainment because my friend had them at her wedding and they were great.
$2500 Photographer -Photos by Chrisine in Nutley. Two photographers (husband and wife team) all day - bride and groom prep, ceremony, park/reception site, reception - proofs in a nice album, prints, online images to order - engagement session with proofs, prints and online images (she said she will even put together a collage and framed engagement images for the reception/cocktail hour). Since she is a family friend she is giving us our wedding album and two parents albums as her gift to us.

$1900 Videographer - GT Modern Creations - two shooters (husband and wife team) all day (with a ton of travel from Brick to Jersey City to Washington Township) - brides prep -  three cameras during ceremony and reception - small video session during pictures after ceremony - black and white footage - highlights with music and credits (bridal party and vendors...my hairdresser is thrilled about the vendors being listed) - 3 disks with leatherbound cover and picture.

  • Hi ladies - 2 related questions on the DJ topic :)

Has anyone ever gotten a photo booth through their DJ?  I am being quoted about 1K without a photo book attendent.  I think it sounds good (not that I have ever looked into a photo booth pricing before)

Has anyone been able to negotiate things down with DJ's?  Any quick hits or tips you could give would be great!!!!
  • Ladies,

I think the quotes people are posting are about right.  A good company will customize the perfect package for you.  We used DIAN Photography and were so happy with everything.  You MUST check them out at www.dianphoto.com.
