The cryptic meeting was to tell everyone that the Learning Center (another division of the company... I work for the Staffing divison) has signed up for GROUPON and we are being featured on Monday. And, oh - by the way - we expect hundreds of phone calls.

And she looked me dead in the eye and told me that she expects ME to deal with all of these calls, since I normally answer the phone up in here anyway.

Like I don't have anything better to do.

FML.

I think I would have rather had her trap us in the conference room and rob the company blind. At least that would have been entertaining. Oy.

No, she's not my superior. But she loves to act like she is. It's been a constant problem in here that's been getting worse and worse.

I run three divisions of the Staffing company, but since we had to lay off our receptionist two years ago I also sit at the front desk. Since most of the phone calls / visitors coming in are for me. And everyone in here understands that my job is not the secretary.. except for this woman.

We're a staffing agency, but we're also a school. The Learning Center does certification classes for MAs, CNAs, IT professionals (C++, A+, etc.), as well as certifications for MS Office and a whole host of other things. The school will be on Groupon... $50 off an MS Office class. So for anyone who wants to sharpen their skills or get certified. I guess it's a new thing, they've never had an education Groupon before. So who knows? It might flop.

I don't take kindly to people who are not my superior trying to tell me what to do. Or acting like they even know what I do on a daily basis. Or trying to "manage me" infront of others. I have to deal with a stupid chick who tries to pull this all the time.

Oh, and going off of your previous post, my company will occasionally send out company-wide meeting invites with absolutely no information on what we're talking about. We're a 65 person ship and it always creates a huge fuss. I've asked before that they at least put a smiley face or something in the meeting invite, so we don't expect the worst.

However, I did learn in February that if they're going to do something bad, like lay off people, they will catch us by surprise and do the lay offs before calling an emergency meeting right after the fact... And then allude to the fact that they just laid people off, but won't say who, so we're looking around the room trying to do a mental inventory of who isn't there anymore.

Yes, exactly! Honestly, I feel like such an ingrateful twat for even complaining about it because there are sooo many people who are out of work right now and would love any job, no matter how annoying it is. But it still irritates the piss out of me. I keep my mouth shut at work but have to vent somewhere. :)

I know how you feel. I try to tell myself I should just be happy that I'm working and it's not the worst situation in the world. It's just hard to keep that mindset when I'm having trouble sleeping, grinding my teeth like crazy because I"m all wound up, and having nightmares about work.
