Table 'names instead of #'s? Ideas?

Along the lines of Shortee's post about table #s:

Any one got any creative ideas for table 'names' instead of numbers?

We are getting married in Las Vegas so I was thinking landmark names but I think that's too cheesy. Nothing about our wedding says vegas except the location.

A friend suggested 'Love' in different languages and that may be an option..,.

any cool table 'themes' or names you guys have seen?? thanks!

I'm a librarian and I was thinking of famous author names. I was thinking of writing up a little quote by each author about love at the table. For Vegas it might be cute to do performers, like the brat pack, but that's not really that romantic.

I was at a wedding where the B&G used years for table numbers. They had 10 years and each year was a year someone in the family got married. At that table was a wedding picture of that family couple. It was kinda neat, but I know it took them a long time to organize.

I'm sticking with the table numbers. I guess I'm lazy / too uncreative.

I've heard of girls doing favorite movies.

And to go with the year thing, there's a girl on my month board doing the table numbers to the age they are (table one--pics of them when they are one, table 2, pics when they are 2..etc.)

I've also heard of favorite vacation spots

This is one of those wedding trends that I don't get. I just think it makes too large a production out of something rather simple. Directing people to their tables should be a quick and simple decision, not a production that advertises your favorite vegetables. I went to a wedding this summer where my table was named for a baseball player. Rather than quickly scanning the room to find my table number, I had to walk up to each table and squint at the name/photo on the card. I found it to be a hassle, and didn't think that having names rather than numbers added anything to the day.

We used places that we've travelled to together along with table numbers. We thought it would be confusing/annoying for people to search through 20 tables to find "New York", so we numbered them in order so they just had to look for table 6, which happened to have a picture of us in New York on it also. I think it worked well.

This is how our caterer in Chile said they do it - they refuse to just use names because they've seen it confuse guests too many times.

My favorite I've seen was flowers. Each table was named for a type of flower, and the centerpiece was an arrangement of said flower. Made it fairly easy to find your table - rose vs delphinium vs billy balls (my personal fave arrangement : ) ) I guess it wouldn't work if you were real anal about staying with a single color but for this particular wedding that had a very colorful feel, it was lovely.

We're using the names of our favorite zones in the World of Warcraft, since that's where we met and all of our friends are gamers. With only six tables, I don't think it will be too confusing, but I suppose I could add numbers as well.

Salt, oh my, I love you!

We did an Old Hollywood theme, so we bought 2 sets of an Old Hollywood postcard set and named the tables after old stars & starlets.

If you note on the seating chart board that the tables are placed in alphabetical order according to the table names, that would suffice too. Just be sure to have the table names be elevated in a way so that your guests can spot them from several feet away. Use one of those table number holders they use at restaurants, where its like 2 ft tall and you slide your order number in the slot thingy.

If I were having a seating chart, I would totally do the numbers with pics of us as kids at that age. My potential venue is only providing enough tables for about 65% of my guests though.

I'm with Mel in that I don't get this trend. I guess its not as bad though with only a few tables.

As for the pics of you at certain ages, I could only do that if I had 4 tables, because by the time I got to age 5 I had uncombable hair syndrome for a few years and there is no way in hell those pics would be at my wedding.

Yeah you need to insist they change that or find a different venue. How is that fair or polite to the 35% of guests that have to eat standing up while holding their drinks and plates?
