Chiavari chairs

What, please, is the big deal about chivari chairs?  I'm open to the idea of loving them, but I can't quite figure out what makes them different than any other chair.  I mean, it's a chair.

    They're pretty and kind of transform a room. They're easy to maintain in the way that they don't need a cover.

    They're really not that special or really even comfortable to sit in.  However, they look nice -- not nicer than all other chairs, but they do look nice in sort of a clean, straight line, minimalistic kind of way without being too strangely modern.  And they are versatile -- they dress up different types of venues -- lawn, hotel ballroom, and everywhere inbetween.  Of course, it depends on your taste.

    Neither my FI nor I can stand chair covers--that's why we chose chiavari chairs (well, actually they're "banqueting chairs"...pretty similar, though--see photo below). He thinks chair covers look like little aliens (the Daleks from Dr. Who, anyone?), and in my mind, they epitomize the 80s' love affair with bows, poofs, and overstated wedding fashion. Both of us like clean lines, so they fit well with our personal wedding aesthetic. 

    If you like the chairs at your venue, no need to use either! However, if the ones you're offered are ugly enough to make you want to use something else (as ours are), chair covers and chiavari chairs are your big choices. For us, the banqueting chair was pretty close to what we wanted and was a lot cheaper than the typical chiavari chairs--same price as chair covers, actually.

    Bonus points to cak7777 for a Dr. Who reference! That having been said, I like the folding wooden chairs better. And they're like a third the cost!

    I love the Chiavari chairs but it just wasn't work the extra cost in my budget. If you like the chairs at your venue then don't worry about it :)
