Snarky Brides

Well, that was different

So, my cousins wedding was today.  The dress was beautiful (and actually made me even more excited to wear it!).  I only wenrt to the reception, and actually ended up having a lot of fun.  Thank you all for your advice, I feel like a weight has been lifted and I can really focus on my wedding now :)

Ok, anyways.  Has anyone seen a "Dollar Dash" at a wedding?  I've seen a lot of dollar dances, and I've always found them tacky and extremely awkward, but this was new to me.  Basically the bride and groom run around the room for 2 minutes or so, trying to get more money than the other from the guests.  The guests hold out money and the bridal party helps them not to miss anyone's outstretched hand. Then, the money is added up and the DJ announces the "winner".  I cringed as soon as the DJ explained it, but all the guests loved it!  At least 3/4 of all the guests were holding up money, and everyone was laughing and clapping the entire time.

Now all of my family members are encouraging me to do the same....of course I told them I thought it was a horrible idea.  Maybe even worse than the dollar dance?

[QUOTE]Ew. I mean, whatever your crowd has fun with then fine. But I'd find it horribly tacky and probably find my way to the ladies room during that time.

this, but for whatever reason some love it.

I had a friend try to tell me to have a "supper fund"  jar like her cousin did for her outdoor wedding because the guests loved it & she made 4000$. Um no, my guests would think we were super tacky & would be completely appalled as they should. If ppl wanted to add $50 they would have done so originally lol.

    weird.

  • I've never heard of that before. I can stomach the dollar dances, as they are common in my family, but just running around grabbing money from people's hands? Gross.

In any case, I'm glad you had fun. And you're right, now you can focus on your wedding and not have to worry about her anymore.
  • I've never heard of that before. I would rather see a dollar dance I think.  Glad the wedding wasn't as bad as you thought it would be though.

  • I can't imagine that Dollar Dash being anything but TACKY.  Hell I'm worried tht people will think it tacky that I'm doing beer and wine and optional cash bar.  I just have a buget and doing an open bar can be dangerous.  Also - putting down a no shot rule at the bar - we are a 40 something couple and most of our friend are that age or older so I don't want anyone getting total trashed at the reception.
