Father Daughter song

So my dad has 3 daughters, I am #2 and the second one to get married. He danced with my older sister to daddy's little girl and then I told him he could pick the song for our dance. Well he gets back to me and says "celine dion; because you loved me". .  .I was like ummm that seems super creepy to me hahaha I told him to try again hahah Not sure why but it seems very much like a first dance song to me, not a F-D song.
What are/did all you girls pick?

We danced to Ill remember by Madonna. Its kind of an upper tempo song, but it worked well for us.

I don't think that song is creepy really. I've heard of MUCH worse. It's a little too much maybe which makes it seem romantic love and not paternal love so I kind of see what you mean.

I think we're going to go with "Father and Daughter' by Paul Simon. It's very cute and a little more up tempo, and hopefully because of that I won't cry like an infant. I was also considering "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper or "Kind and Generous" by Natalie Portman.

I'm also one of three girls and the second to get married. My oldest sister danced with my dad to "In My Life" by The Beatles.

I actually love Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion. It fits my relationship with my father so well.  I have been saying for years every time I hear that song that that will be the song that I will dance to with my father at my wedding.

I can see how it can be a song for a first dance, but to me it reminds me of my father.

I really want to dance with my father to "I Loved Her First" by Heartland. I am not a fan of country music (at all). But when I heard this song it made me cry, so I am going to make an exception for it Laughing

I'm using "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle.  Back when the song came out on cassette tape years ago I gave it to my dad for Father's Day and he told me that it would be the song he'd dance with me to at my wedding.

This post makes me sad...sorry to be a downer :(. My dad passed away in August right after I got engaged. My 2 brothers who I am close with are walking me down the aisle and I was thinking about dancing with both of them (share the song with each one) to "I loved her first" in memory of my dad who I was really close with.

<div>Thank you...Aww, that's nice. I think the best thing to choose is the one that makes you and your dad smile or represents your relationship. It's definitely one of the most special moments a dad and daughter can share...</div>

<div>I didnt mean to make you apologize! I'm sorry! I'm just super sensitive whenever anyone puts dad and wedding into the same sentence. I broke down during 2 meetings with officiants! Sorry for making you feel bad! Honestly, you should feel so lucky having your father with you that day and any song you choose will be special.</div>

We are probably going to do "My Girl" by the Temptations, because my dad used to sing it to me all the time when I was a little girl - a little bit more fast-tempo than most choices, but it has special meaning to us, so I think it's worth it. maybe we'll take a dance lesson or 2 just to make sure we dance ok to it lol

I'm also having my two brothers walk me down the aisle, and I'm planning to have them share a dance with my mom as a surprise to her because she has been the constant in our lives, the glue that has held us together.  My dad will be there and I am planning to dance with him as a way to honor the happy memories I have from when I was little.  The song is a little unorthodox, "What I Did For Love" from the musical A Chorus Line, but it has meaning for us since I remember playing it on the piano and hearing him sing along.  I am definitely an advocate of tailoring traditions to suit your own situation and honoring the people who have been most important in your life.

I parents are really big into country music, and I hate it... I already told them no country music allowed at the reception..but I'm surprising my dad with a country song. "You're Gonna Miss This" by Trace Adkins.. the lyrics are really cute, and my goal is to make him cry! lol

'Daughter of Mine' by Jon McDermott. It's a pretty song as I find the other ones typically played at weddings are just not me.
  • edited December 2011
I'm using "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman. It's a perfect father-daughter dance song, because it's about a father watching his daughter growing up and then getting married and giving her away.

We are doing I loved her first by heartland as well
  • edited December 2011
I am still trying to figure mine out, but its so hard to pick one becauce they all make me cry. I may use I loved her first- my mom is pushing for that one haha. I love butterfly kisses too, but my cousin used it for her wedding and thats what it makes me think of, so I'd prefer to pick something that hasnt been used by a family member. My sister also used Daddy's LittleGirl. There was another song I found online, I think its call Angel in My Arms, and it was about  a father giving his daughter away- very pretty. I also have Because You Loved Me on my list- I dont think its creepy- when you listen to the words, at least to me, its kinda saying you became who you are because your father loved you. Its hard to pick!

We haven't decided for ourselves, but maybe one of the most unconventional was played at a friends wedding; GNR's Sweet Child of Mine.  Not only was it an odd pick, but it's a long song and they played every minute of it.  ugh.

I have actually been to quite a few weddings where they used "Because you loved me" for the F/D dance.  So I guess to me it seems normal because I have seen it before.

I used, "I loved her first".  I had only heard the song once at a friends wedding, and my dad said that was what he wanted to use.  I would have used anything he wanted, to me the dance was for him, so I felt he should pick it.
