Soooooooo we've been in limbo with our landlord for about a week now. My friend is breeding an amazing dog with another amazing dog and it has been my dream for as long as he's had her to have one of her pups. Well, the time came but instead of owning a home like we were hoping to do we're still renting.
Today we have a phone meeting with the landlords and they said YES! The dog just has to be outdoors and we have to put down an additional deposit which is A OK in our book. I'm sooo excited! We're going to get the female runt (or smallest female) because they tend to have great personalities.
I can't wait! We don't get her until August/September but that gives us plenty of time to plan for obedience school, read up on dog training, figuring out a name and to purchase all the important things like leashes etc. ACK! SOO FREAKING EXCITED!
Re: Quick break from last minute wedding madness = FANTASTIC NEWS!
[QUOTE]Labs are amazing. Too bad he'll have to stay outside and in the garage. Not really fair to the dog IMO.

I feel ya but the way I see it the pup won't actually be outside all that much considering I'll be bringing her everywhere with me. Most days she can come to work with me and really, it's not that much different than crate training. I kind of felt the same way in the beginning but if you think about it they're animals and built to live outside. There are tons of outdoor animals that don't get the privelage of going inside. I really don't see this as a horrible thing. Especially since when we buy our house the pup can be inside and outside. It's temporary and the sacrifice of having the dog outside for the reward of having the pup and being able to keep the pup friendly with her mom and siblings seems a much greater gain.
You have to get on the same page, and there's a lot for the human and the dog to learn.

Oh and I kind of agree, but I can see that being a situation that worked out. Neglect = bad behavior.
[QUOTE]100% go to obedience school. This might be harsh, but I think unless you live in the country and the dog is completely an outside roaming dog, it is cruel to not take a dog to obedience school. You have to get on the same page, and there's a lot for the human and the dog to learn.

Yes, we are going to do obedience school. I'm not going to just shove the dog outside and let that be that.
