Lunch and a question

Because I'm bored :)

What's for lunch, and how do you feel about legalizing prostitution?

Re: Lunch and a question

  • Lunch is leftover pizza and cake!

No thanks on the legal prostitution, I find it unnecessary

I had bbq. It was delicious. Now, I'm having coffee. I need to wake up.

Not a fan of whores. Even the ones that get paid. I think there is an upside to legalizing it, though if it would mean regulating it and cutting down on disease, violence, etc. But then, I'm not a huge fan of regulations, so I've kind of talked myself in a circle.
  • I had a ham and cheese sandwich and spicy nacho doritos for lunch. Work lunches suck. I want my baked ziti at home.

And gross. No thanks on legalizing prostitution. I know I sound extremely judgey and high horse-y, but, like cew said, I'm not a fan of whores. They disgust me.
  • I had turkey jerky, tomato soup and edamame.  Oh, and some jelly beans.  It was yummy.

Prostitution? I can't say I feel very strongly one way or the other considering I don't ever plan to frequent the brothels.  I actually don't know the arguements for legalizing vs. not.  However, I do think that making certain things illegal causes lots of safety precautions to be pushed aside and activities just go underground, which tends to lead to more problems than if the blessed activity was just legal and somewhat regulated instead.  So... there's that.
  • lunch is beef and broccoli with brown rice- homemade by FI.

dont bother legalizing it- I am with Roxy- I find it unnecessary.

  • Lunch- I am having a turkey and avocado sandwich with soup.

Legalizing Prostitution- I haven't given it much thought but I think prostitution is wrong for many reasons and I think it would only glorify it if we legalize it. With that said if there were to legalize it, it would help lower the disease and violence rates and might just help with not having so many under age prostitutes

I just had a ham sandwich on good, homemade french bread. And I feel great about legalizing prostitution. I see nothing wrong with the concept, in and of itself, but it would need to be regulated by the government. You know, STD testing, birth control, all that stuff.

ETA: On second thought, I'd rather the government not regulate it. But the industry could regulate itself, much like the video gaming industry rates its own games. They'd need a governing body. They could call it the Executive Board of Whores.

  • I will hopefully be having Panera.

I don't really care either way about prostitutes, but I think there are some good points to legalizing it.  It can be regulated--cut down on the spread of disease, cut down on violence, etc.  I also think it would be helpful at an economic standpoint because earnings would then be taxed, just like anything else.

  • I am going to make some mac and cheese with ground beef I think. Maybe some cookies for desert as well.

I kind of lean towards legalizing. It's the classic "they are doing it anyways" arguement but I feel like if you legalize it then you can start regulating, taxing, and make it a lot safer for everyone involved.
  • Lunch was a roasted chicken breast sammich from Subway.

Whores- Well, it's gonna happen (being prostitutey) one way or another. I'm surprised our government hasn't legalized it and taxed the schit out of it (like they do everything else). I don't really care because I don't see it affecting me personally anytime soon.
  • Maybe some toasted zucchini bread and an apple?

I'm not sure how I feel about legalizing it. I suspect that some arguments against may stem from a gut level reaction that it would be somehow condoning it or deeming it moral. I do see the point of regulating it from a health and safety standard. Ultimately, I guess I'm just not sure.

  • Lunch:  a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Embarassed

Prostitution:  I see no reason it should be illegal in the first place.
  • FI ate all of my chicken breast last night, so I had to have a turkey sandwich. I am allergic to turkey, so if I get sick, its all his fault. I also have a can of Amy's vegetable soup, which I love.

Prostitution is one of the world's oldest professions. Outlawing it does not make it go away, as there is always demand. Legalizing it would give the government some control over hygeine and testing standards that could only improve things.

  • lunch: little mini sandwiches from the store next to my work.

prostitution: I'd be all for legalizing it. It's going to happen anyway, so we might as well try to regulate it and make it safer. Plus, if it's legal, the government can tax them- that could help pay for STI testing, education, etc.
  • I had a very yummy protein/vitamin shake for lunch.

I'm 100% in support of legalizing prostitution.  If it's legal, the government can tax it and it will help the economy.  In addition to that, if it isn't illegal, it makes it much safer for the women.  They can work out of legal brothels with security cameras and they can refuse any customer they don't want to do business with.  It would virtually eliminate pimping.  They'd also be subjected to mandatory STD screenings.  Also, if a woman were to be abused by a customer, she'd be more likely to report the crime if she doesn't feel like she's going to get in trouble for breaking the law.

  • Well, breakfast was 20 minutes ago, so yeah.... ;)

And I'm 100%, absolutely for it. The way things are right now, it's so incredibly dangerous for sex workers. The whole concept of pimps increases the danger for them, slashes their income, and dramatically increases the number of deaths due to partner violence (if you can call a pimp a partner...). Legalizing it would bring it out into the open and provide a measure of care and safety for sex workers. I think that there should be a minmum age of the worker, consistent rates for pay, penalties for not using condoms/dental dams, and union-like organizations to protect the women (and men) who work. Pimps should be completely illegal and choices and revenue returned to the women who are actually working.

The way I see it, I might not personally feel comfortable with it, but it's "the world's oldest profession" and isn't going anywhere, so I'd like to regulate it to give some measure of safety.

    Just my two cents :)

Exactly!  If they can tax tanning, they can tax sex.  It's a good idea.

  • Lunch is leftover mashed potato, ham, cheese and carrot casserole.

Eh.... I don't support prostitution as an occupation. The only valid reason I could see to legalize it would be to establish some sort of regulatory control but I'm not sure even that would work.

  • Lunch, maybe Quiznos or Panera before work.

I'll just ditto Poli, cause she pretty much said what I was gonna say verbatim.  I'm not particularly fond of it, and wouldn't plan on contributing to the industry, but it hasn't gone away in 5,000 years, so we might as well make the best of it.  If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.  Sorta.

  • Alfredo with shells and a cherry Pepsi

Legalize it.  It would be so much safer for everyone involved.  I'm not entirely sure I want the government regulating the testing and all of that, but I think taxing it would be perfectly fine.  Who regulates the brothels in Nevada, like for the STD testing?  Is it the state, city, or is it the brothel's responsibility?  I would look it up but it's probably not work-appropriate.  :)

If it was legalized, I would like to see it organized differently.  As in, no one can just stand around on the corner, even if you have a license and are disease-free.  I'm also not necessarily liking the idea of a bunch of girls renting out a house in the suburbs either, so I'm kind of torn on where they should be allowed to work.  Obviously there is a lot to consider if this was legalized.

I would vastly prefer this for the workers' safety (over random hotel rooms, alleys, or cars). Keep a security guard downstairs and have another security guard monitoring a camera of each room (I'm sure this would be a easy job to fill!) to make sure nobody's getting hurt. They could destory the tapes every week for privacy issues, but I think it would be so much safer.

  • Actually, on a slightly related note, I recently learned that two Chicago suburbs (Schaumburg and Napierville) are the swinger hotspots of the US. There are several McMansions that couples can rent rooms in each weekend and swap partners. Perfectly legal, since nobody's paying anyone to have sex. The guys who own one of the houses charge $150 per couple and usually have around 50 couples show up per night. That's an intake of $15k every weekend.
  • lunch: last night's spaghetti

prostitution: Legalize it, tax it, zone areas for it, and require the businesses to provide good healthcare for their employees.
