DD loves her dolls, especially her Baby Stella. She loves taking care of Baby Stella, who of course has an entire portfolio of outfits and accessories you can buy for her. It's almost like having another kid to dress and supply. But it's convenient for gift-giving occasions ("What does she want? More Baby Stella crap.") and it's awfully cute to see her playing with Baby Stella. Yesterday she was "feeding" her and I said, "Now it's time to burp Baby Stella" and Maddie fake-burped. I couldn't help it, I laughed, which encouraged her to keep doing it.
On the other hand, I think girls are a little less likely to do stupid isht, like coworker's son who got second-degree burns on his face when the bomb that he and his friend made blew up in his face. I told DH about it, and he reminded me that he used to pour gas on his matchbox cars and light them on fire so they would explode like the cars on the A-Team. I cannot relate to wanting to do this stuff AT ALL. If we have a second kid and it's a boy, I will be in way over my head.
God help me when she gets an American Girl. My mom is counting the months until she's old enough. I think she's already created an entire insane wishlist on DD's behalf.
