The problem with dolls

DD loves her dolls, especially her Baby Stella.  She loves taking care of Baby Stella, who of course has an entire portfolio of outfits and accessories you can buy for her.  It's almost like having another kid to dress and supply.  But it's convenient for gift-giving occasions ("What does she want?  More Baby Stella crap.") and it's awfully cute to see her playing with Baby Stella.  Yesterday she was "feeding" her and I said, "Now it's time to burp Baby Stella" and Maddie fake-burped.  I couldn't help it, I laughed, which encouraged her to keep doing it.

On the other hand, I think girls are a little less likely to do stupid isht, like coworker's son who got second-degree burns on his face when the bomb that he and his friend made blew up in his face.  I told DH about it, and he reminded me that he used to pour gas on his matchbox cars and light them on fire so they would explode like the cars on the A-Team.  I cannot relate to wanting to do this stuff AT ALL.  If we have a second kid and it's a boy, I will be in way over my head.

God help me when she gets an American Girl.  My mom is counting the months until she's old enough.  I think she's already created an entire insane wishlist on DD's behalf.

I can totally see H and Bacon making her Hot Wheels blow up A-Team style. That sounds awesome.

Obviously, I am part of that problem.

My mom  bought Bacon some little fashion doll that came with a trunk full of outfits. All the shoes were gone within a week, and the rest of it she tried to put on dinosaurs.

My mom hasn't tried that again.

I think I may feel like I'm kind of missing out on the doll thing when Mr. Loverman gets to that age. And I'm sure he'll be a bit mischievous as a toddler and little boy.

At the same time, I'm thrilled to be having a little boy. I cannot stand the diva crap that a lot of little girls pull.

IDK how BabyHeffa is not much older than DD yet seems so advanced in some ways.  DD would never think to "feed" her baby.  She hugs it, pokes its eyes/nose/mouth and says, "Dis!" to it a lot.  She also brings it to us for hugs.

Sometimes I read stories about the WW kids here and feel like DD is behind the curve.  :\

I remember when I was 10 or so overhearing my mother tell a friend that I wasn't all that interested in dolls.  For some reason it made me very self conscience and I went on a doll binge.

    ::off to google Baby Stella::

I did not play with dolls. I  started fires, climbed in trees, ran barefoot everywhere, and played in the sewers (water intake sewers).

Yeah, but her gross motor skills lag to the extent that the nurse kind of freaked out at her 12 mo. checkup when she found out that DD had just started cruising and couldn't stand on her own for any length of time.  She is just starting to get good at walking, and by "good" I mean she can take several steps before plopping down on her butt.  Not like walking around the block or anything.  So when I read about babyleg practically running, I kind of feel the same way, even though I repeat the mantra about "every kid develops differently/on their own schedule" yada yada.

I just keep repeated that there are pros and cons to either sex.  I remember at one neice's 1st Communion I looked at my other 4 nieces.  All of them in their pretty Easter dresses with cute white sweaters and shoes and little purses and jewelry and I thought "That's a lot of crap to keep together."  6let and my nephew were in their "uniform" khaki pants, brown shoes, and a sweater vest and shirt.

The picture of Dexter sorting all of his colors made me think 6let is behind.  Ah well.

I had dolls as a kid but I usually preferred to play in the dirt and in the woods and with the dogs.

If I was in my room I had a huge amount of girly toys, and would cut the hair off the barbies or use my California Raisin dolls to sing "heard it through the grapevine" and "Oh when the saints come marching"

I did quite enjoy my popples collection though.

It's funny how they're all so different.  DD barely looks at her dolls.  She'd rather play with her basketball hoop, baseball and bat, or golf clubs.

ETA:  I had every cabbage patch doll and barbie thing that came out.  I played with dolls like crazy and then completely dropped them when I started playing sports in 4th grade.

I played hockey with anything I could find-little bros toy golf clubs with pillos for a goal. (btw, Barbie, we root for the same team) But I loved Barbies. I had the non PC Barbie in a Wheelchair. I had her run a rehabilitation horse ranch. She also was a paratrooper in my little brothers GI Joe army.
