Pnta Cana, Dominican Republic, what do you think?

Hi ladies,

I'm still looking where to go for our honeymoon.  I looked up Pnta Cana and it looks so pretty and not that expensive either.  Let me know if any of you have been or heard good things about Pnta Cana.

    Have you thought about contacting a travel agent? It makes life SO easy... :) Give them a budget, your wants and they email you top resorts! It is amazing :)
    I just booked our anniv. trip with Elise at Beach Bum Vacation and she is just awesome! Check her out... she is free... and if you dont like what she sends she can either send more or you dont have to use her :)

    Another great place to go is the Honeymoon board to ask about specific areas! There are a ton of girls over there that are well travelled :)

    We looked at the Excellence P*nta Cana resort but due to negative reviews from our travel agent & a couple of friends who went there previously, we're going to Jamaica instead. I don't remember exactly what the travel agent said but our friends said the resort had a dirty feel to it & just wasn't really kept up. They also didn't feel comfortable leaving the resort at all for any reason due to the locals. They travel a lot & to tons of different places so I value their opinions. Maybe it just depends on which resort you stay in...you never really know until you get there though! Hope this helps you!

    Prlmgr--you have been posting alot about beachbum and when I was newly engaged I thought you had a horrible experience with them on your honeymoon.  Did they offer you some sort of discount off your trip if you would talk them up now?

    I know of a few people who have gone to p*nta cana and not liked it at all. Same thing amberk81  said about feeling dirty and not safe in general. I also heard the food tasted funny because of the different water they use down there? Not siure about that one, but I know my cousins ended up coming home almost a week early because of their bad stay. Oh, and p*nta is the slang word for b*tch in Spanish LOL

    IT wasnt Beach Bum that was the issue, it was the new management at the resort that we stayed at. Beach Bum actually worked things out (Elise did,... even though she wasnt our agent, she still busted butt to make things right) because the agent I used was out of town visiting a new resort. Beach Bum did everything and more than they could while we were there with the little communication that we had (we didnt have out laptop and had to pay for internet access.) The resort that we were at had recently opened a sister resort and they had switched most of their top players to the new resort, which left desk managers that didnt know what they were doing and also my travel agent(different from Elise....)'s contact was in the States which made it difficult for them to get in contact with whom needed to be contacted.

    Something that in hinesite that I know now is that requests(these were where the issues were) are NOT a guarantee, travel agent or not.

    And NO... no discount. Just good customer service from Elise. Thanks though.
