Snarky Brides

Here for honesty.. :)

I came here because I know you will be completely honest in your opinions.

Before I found my dress, I found a belt that I absolutely love. I began dress shopping with that belt in mind and then realized I had to focus on the dress.

I fell in love with and ordered Maggie Sottero Destiny. Unfortunately, I can't try the belt with the dress before I decide and order it and it is not returnable. I want to make sure it isn't going to clash with my dress and will compliment the look I am going for.

We are getting married in Vegas in August. We are having more of a cocktail style reception with an after party at the Chandelier Lounge. This belt would be for after formal pictures. More for the reception and after party. Our decorations at the reception will be big glass vases with lids, filled with giant black and white feathers. The boutonnieres will be white callas with black feathers incorporated.

The belt fits. But does it fit with my dress? You decide.

I was thinking of having the belt custom made with these crystals and pearls to go better with the beading in my dress instead of the original rhinestones. Thoughts? Her dress is definitely more plain than mine...but I just love this belt. Does it work?

Re: Here for honesty.. :)

  • Well, the belt and the dress are both gorgeous, but I think that the belt may be a bit much with the dress....why couldn't you try the belt with the dress? Did the salon tell you you couldn't?
  • I personally feel like the sash is too big and bold for the dress.  It overpowers it to me.

    Beautiful dress though.

  • The sash is made to order and custom cut...that's why it can't be tried on/returned. I'm ordering it from a designer online. :
  • Would you be covering up the beadwork that is already under the bust on your dress? It doesn't makes sense to me, to pay for that beading, and then cover it with a sash.

  • If the belt wasn't so big, it would look good. I think it's too overpowering and takes away from the dress, which is beautiful. I'd say a dress like that needs no embellishments, but if you insist on the belt, make it smaller.
  • I guess I'm in the minority but I like it! I think the beads in the flower should match the beads on the dress, but it goes with the texture of your skirt and if it's just for the reception and you love it, do it!

I don't see any difference in that and a bride sticking a great big feather or flower on her head for her reception, or a big chunky necklace that does not echo the classic theme of a dress. I'm all for something funky for the reception.

I say get it and see how everything looks together. If you get the dress and try it on with the sash and don't like it, I'm sure you can re-sell it. Or find a rocking party dress to wear it with on your honeymoon.

I say go for it! But keep your hair and accessories simple.

  • Am I the only one that's really sad that this isn't the 2nd coming of MISSCOURTNEY?

I don't like the belt, it's just, too much

  • I kinda love it and wish I could pull off something like that.

  • I think it would look great. Granted I love belts with wedding dresses (ahem) but if there is one day to go for a little excess, it is your wedding.

    I was hoping.
  • Both are gorgeous, but I think the belt it a bit much with that dress. I think if it was scaled down to about half the height it is now, it'd be fabulous!

  • I like it, especially if it's for the party. I think it sets the tone for your reception.

  • I love the dress, the belt is nice, but both together is a bit much, as PPs have said.

Have you thought of having another dress to wear for the after-party?  If it is within your budget, I would look into that.

  • I love your dress!  The belt, however, I'm not so in love with.  I also think its too much with the dress.  If it was scaled down a little, then absolutely...but as it is, it's just too overpowering to me.
