Photo booth at reception?

We are considering having a photobooth at the reception.  Has anyone been to a wedding with a photobooth?  I'm just trying to decide if it's really worth the money ($650.00), or if it's something we should just pass on?  What are your thoughts on this??

Re: Photo booth at reception?

  • I have been to a few weddings that had them.  I thought it was a really cute idea at first, but has definitely become a bit of trend. We went to a very small wedding (under 50 people) and it was great for that because we weren't dancing the whole time and it added a some charm to the intimate event imo. However, at the larger weddings I almost felt like it took away a little because people would get off the dance floor and wait 20+ minutes to get their picture taken.

We opted not to have a photo booth because we don't really love them, and they are pricey.

Those are just my opinions.  Good luck!
  • I love the photobooth's at weddings.  Not everybody dances or will want to dance so don't worry about the dance floor being full or not.

I couldn't afford a photobooth so we DIY'd ours, cost us $60 for everything.

What did you do to DIY??  I was thinking about that option as well.
  • years ago before they became really super trendy they were somewhat original, now they're just the norm. they are fun though-i always love the pics that come out! one wedding we went to had a scrapbook, a few pens, a few rolls of tape next to the booth and asked people to take pics and put them in there with a message. the book came out great and was super fun.

  • I love photo booths. I think they're a fun thing for people to do when they're not dancing. We DIYed ours for $325 including materials we didn't end up using. You can definitely do it for less. We just decided to purchase automated photo booth software and have an attendant for the whole night.

Here are links to a few DIY photo booth writeups (including my own):

  • I think they are great and could not afford one but we ended up winning one at a bridal shower. The only fee not included was $50 for props to be brought in. Instead we shopped at the Dollar Tree for under $20 and got some great things to use. I also made a really cute sign on VP for the table.

  • I really love photo booths at wedding; it's an alternative to dancing so if the DJ plays something I'm not into it's photo booth time!

Does yours come with the plasma screens that show the pics as they are taken? That's where you may need to be...careful.

We got a really good picture of me and my friends in the booth that I still have framed; I liked that over any favor!

  • 650 is a GREAT price...we have outs for 850. I think it will be a lot of fun. you can have you guests paste thier photos in a guest book as an alternative and it would be so cute to look back over the years and see what people wrote to you with a photo to add

  • I love photo booths, always have... My fiance and I have a collection of pictures from various photo booths that we've taken over the years in different places. They are our favorite pictures because they literally document different stages of our relationship, so we have a personal attachment to photo booths.

We are absolutely planning to have one at our wedding reception. Our guestbook will be in the same area and guests will be asked to take as many pictures as they like, just leave us a strip and write us a message in the book. The rest of the photos will double as their favors, and I've also doubled the escort cards as admit one tickets to the booth to get everyone in the spirit!

I can't wait to see how our guestbook will turn out, and I can't wait to add a new photo strip to our collection of us in our wedding clothes!

I say go for it. It's fun and a way better favor than candy or random trinkets that no one will give a second look at.

  • i was at a wedding that had it and thought it was cute, enjoyed it.

But I wouldn't do it myself.
  • I've only been to one wedding that had one, but it was fantastic.  The guests had a great time using it, had some photos to take home for memories, and the scrapbook that got made with the duplicate photos was priceless - it was so funny to look through it the next day!  We are definitely having one at our wedding.

  • I love them and think they're fun, but very "norm" now.  We are doing a caricature artist (way cheaper) and a DIY photo booth (just as fun).

  • I love photo booths at weddings!  They are so much fun, and all the guests seem to have so much fun with them.  I am considering having one for my wedding, and I definitely think it would be worth the money.
