Bridal Shower Games & Favors

I am helping to plan my SIL's shower and was put in charge of games (3 total) and favors.

What are some entertaining games you have seen at bridal showers? It will be attended mostly by family (women in their 40s-50s).

Also, any unique ideas for favors? Her main wedding element is peacock feathers.

TIA!

Recently for a shower, I set up the apron game. I attached about 10 or so kitchen gadgets (some of which were on her registry, I got from BB&B) with purple ribbon (her wedding color) to a pretty apron. I had the bride put it on and go around to each table for a set amt of time. Then she left the room and guests had to try to remember what was on it. The bride got to keep the apron and all the gadgets.

The only problem I encountered was lots of ties, so be prepared to tie breakers or many winners.

LaFemme played this game at her shower, and I have requested it at mine.

This works really well with baskets because you can just give the winners a ticket, but if you were doing "prizes"it would work too.

Basically the bridesmaids buy a bunch of random difficult to identify kitchen gadgets, like an avocado slicer, a mango splitter, etc and the person who correctly identifies it gets a ticket and the bride gets to keep the random tools!

Other games that I've seen, but not as crazy about- gift bingo (people fill out on a sheet what they think the bride will get and check it off, winner would get tickets/prizes), purse scavenger hunt- whoever can produce the random item fastest gets a prize/ticket, toilet paper wedding dress (ick IMO), and a quiz on the bride and groom.

Hmmm... I'll try to think of more.

The only item I will not compromise on...my bouquet of all purple tulips wrapped in a swatch from my Mom's wedding dress.

oh... favor ideas... hmmm... the only one that comes into my head are fans made out of feathers. Is the theme of the shower "peacock?" Are most of the guests OOT?

I think somewhat older woman really like the purse game - at least at the showers I've been too they have been a hit.

I personally really like the kitchen timer game - where you set the time while the gifts are being opened and whoever's gift is being opened when the timer stops, wins a prize. Moves things along a bit.

favors - hmm something edible is always well received.. or I really liked the flavored tea bags and biscotti favor i got at one shower.

I second the purse game!!  I think it's really cute.  Also, at my best friend's shower, we played a little game where we were given a paper plate and a crayon, and we had to draw our "dream house" (or whatever you choose) on the plate.. but the trick was, we had to set the plate on top of our heads and try to draw it that way!  It was really fun to see what everyone's drawings looked like since none of us really had an idea as to what we were drawing.  The bride-to-be chose her favorite drawing and the winner got a prize.

As for favors: at another shower I went to last year, we were given pancake mixes that were attached to a pancake mold (hearts, circles, etc..).  The brides aunts put them together and attached a cute message to it, too.  It was very cute and very practical!

At one of my friend's bridal showers, we asked the groom a bunch of funny questions about him ahead of time.  At the shower, she had to answer the questions.  If she got a question wrong, she had to put a piece of gum in her mouth (think old school bubblicious).  At the end of it you could barely make out what she was saying.  Probably not good for an overly self-conscious bride, but if she has a good sense of humor it was definitely entertaining.

I also like the basket idea for prizes.  I made flower pens for a shower before.  You just get a silk flower of your choice (you can go to Joann's and pick up a bunch and just cut the bud part), a pen, and floral tape (also available at Joann's).  You wrap the pen with floral tape at the top taping the flower to it.  If you put a bunch of them in a vase, it looks like a cute centerpiece.  The guests can use the pens for games and take them home as favors.  If I could figure out how to send a picture I would.

If you send me your e-mail address, I created a really cute word document for the purse game!
