Missouri-St Louis

Clueless about St. Louis!!!

PLEASE HELP!
So I am not from STL but my fiance is, we are having the wedding there due to some of his family members health and that they wouldn't be able to travel to where I am from. Plus we are currently living in Chicago, to complicate things further!  So I am trying to book a reception for next september, but I have absolutely NO CLUE about reception sites in STL. PLEASE give me your suggestions. Our budget is pretty tight, so I'm looking for a good deal. We are headed down there in two weeks to do some looking and hopefully secure a date!

Thank you all for your help!

There are hundreds of places in St. Louis, a little more information would be helpful. Like how many guests, what your thinking for cost per person, reception venue style would help us help you. And are you looking for reception venues only or places to have a wedding ceremony as well.

Here is a good site to check some stuff out about St. Louis weddings.

    Tiffers-

We should totally get together sometime and talk. I am from STL, having a wedding in STL, and moved to Chicago 2 months ago. We should compare notes.

There are a lot of great hotels in St. Louis that cover all price ranges. If you are looking for something different, there are really cool museums that have rooms for rent (St. Louis Zoo, Botanical Gardens, Science Center). They can get a little pricey depending on your budget.

Were you thinking more downtown St. Louis or the metro area??

Do you know exactly where your FI's family is in St. Louis?  That will help us narrow the possible venue suggestions.

I guess I should have been a little more specific. We are thinking about 100 people at the reception. We just need a place for a reception because we are going to have a catholic chruch ceremonny (thats another issues). I don't really know where we want to have it downtown or out. His family lives all over, south county, clayton, etc., not that I really know where these places are anyways. We are hoping to get out with the cost being 50/ plate or less, which I know is hard. So far online, I've seen 9th street abbey and Windows on Washington that I like. I LOVE the idea of the caterer and everything being included, because that means less stuff I have to figure out. I know those places are pretty run of the mill so I was hoping to get a few more not as popular and possibly cheaper locales. Thank you all for your help!

Andre's is a reception site.  They have a few different locations, one in south county and one in Fenton.  They are supposed to not be too pricey.  Royal Orleans and Orlando Gardens might also be somewhere you want to check into.  They might be in your price range too.

We're doing Orlando Gardens.  They range from $25-$35 a plate and it includes venue, food and open bar.  Depending on what package you pick, it can even include a cake and some decorations.  You can even rent chair covers from them.

The Mayfair Ballroom at the Roberts Mayfair Hotel will seat 100 with a dance floor (125 without) and the reservation is free with paid meals for your guests.  If you want to be downtown, that's where I'd go, especially with lots of out of towners because they'll offer a decent discount on room rates and if they fill up there is are at least 5 other hotels within 2 blocks because it is near the convention center.  Menu range is $38-52+.

If you're thinking Clayton, you're probably going to go over budget.  But, I planned a nice event for my law school at the Sheraton Plaza and they were very nice/ easy to work with.  I think they were over $50 a plate, and the food was not exceptional, but they were the cheapest we could find in the area.

In between South County and Clayton would be the Kirkwood/ Des Peres area- about a 10-15 min drive from each, and I have heard good things about Sunset 44.

You may also want to consider nontraditional venues like Mad Art Gallery and the Science Center- they'll hover more $50-60 a person, but they could be more of what you want if you want something particularly memorable.

My husband and I got married and had our reception at the 9th Street Abbey, and I can't say enough about how amazing they were.  It was like having a DOC--they took care of everything.  One tiny issue:  it will not end up being $50 a person once you add the bar, taxes, and gratuity.  PM me if you want to know how it broke down per person.  But it really was worth every penny.  We've been married for almost a year, and people who have been to weddings with other caterers are still talking about the mashed potato bar.

I did go to a wedding over the weekend that was catered by Orlando's.  They did heavy appetizers at stations--great food (a peanut butter and jelly station!  My husband was in heaven) and it was presented very creatively.  The staff was very professional as well.

I've been looking around for my wedding and helping my friends with there's. Here's a few places that are not necessarily the standards.

This place looks cool and it's pretty affordable: http://www.theedgeofwebster.com/.

Hope this helps! One good thing about having a wedding in St. Louis vs. Chicago is that it's more affordable. There are a lot of great places here that aren't ridiculous. Good luck!

You should also try the City Museum!  They have a low room rental cost and reasonably priced catering options.
