Full reception after elopement?

Re: Full reception after elopement?

  • You know what? All of you seem up tight and too concerned with 'proper etiquette'. Sometimes the sensible and reasonable option is to elope and have an inclusive celebration later.

My fiance and I had to elope early after buying a house because the army changed their mind about him being able to live off base as a single man. Without being legally married we would have had to sell 2 months after signing the mortgage paperwork.

Circumstances sometimes make it necessary to make it legal before the ceremony you've been planning for a long while. A civil contract is simply not the same as affirming a personal commitment in front of your loved ones.

Personally, I can relate to your situation and understand you're not just trying to grab for gifts or 'have it both ways'. The rest of you seem like paltry unsympathetic biddies. Just because it isn't the way you would do it doesn't mean it's wrong or somehow forbidden.
