What is your wedding dress budget just curious?

Re: WHAT is your dress budget

  • Mine was $300. We're having a very small "backyard" wedding so I wanted something low-key. The dress I bought was about $200 (before alterations).
  • Mine was $1000.  Only because my mom paid for my dress.  I ended up getting a $800 dollar Bonny dress.

My mom generously offered to pay for mine, and I had initially wanted to keep it under $500 (the idea of spending even that much on something I'd only wear once gave me a heart attack)... but I fell in love with a $700 gown, and my mom had budgeted $1,000 - so for the gown, shoes, undergarments, veil, and hair piece was just under $1,020.

I've not yet had any alterations done, though.
  • About $1,000 before alterations.

  • $1200 + alterations.   i think it's a ridiculous splurge for a dress i'll wear once but we're spending less than anticipated on other items so it evens out.  also my jewelry and veil are from my mom and grandmothers, which is free, and way more meaningful to me than anything i could buy!

i feel lucky that we had the flexibility in our budget.  i loooooooove my dress. :)

i don't think there's a right or wrong unless you spend more than you can afford.  set a $$ limit before you go shopping and stick to your guns, there are gorgeous dresses in every price range.

  • Mine was $3,000 tops. I don't splurge much in life and I wanted to do it in this instance. I am paying for the dress myself, though, and my FI and I are paying for the wedding. I would feel yucky about having someone else shell out $$ for my dress (but that's just me).
  • Mine is >=$500, but I fell in love with the $1100 Belle dress from Alfred Angelo =( So I'm trying to figure out a way to save money out of every paycheck to be able to afford it since FI and I are paying for EVERYTHING, which means I got wedding he has honeymoon >.>

  • I didn't have one when I started looking.  I honestly thought I would have to spend 2k or 3k after watching all those damn wedding shows.

I went into the first place because it was local.  I said I didn't have a budget and the response was "that's good and the most expensive dress we have here is $1700".  Needless to say it was awesome being able to look at any dress I wanted without worrying about price.  The first dress I tried on was the one I ended up with.  I looked at the price after I decided and it was on sale, originally $750 but I got it for $540.

What's even better is I bought it as a sample and no one tried it on.  It fit me perfectly and the only alteration I have needed is a bustle which I got through another seamstress for $35!

Also this dress was from 09 and I bought it the year after (2010).  This year is my wedding and I have since looked up the dress.  Could you believe I could buy the darn thing for $200 now!

Oh well I love it anyways but my point is if you can't get the style number and price it out online.

  • My parents offered to pay for a dress for 2 thousand or so, but I would consider contributing another thousand or so for the perfect dress. Although now it looks like I found a perfect dress for under 2k :).
  • I didn't have a set budget prior to looking (big no-no) but it ended up being $1100, which was something I was comfortable spending.
  • Mine was $3000USD and I ended up spending $2500 all up as my shop includes all the alterations, hem and bustle.

  • I budgeted 2K for my dress.  The dress I fell in love with was only $950 and my veil was $365.  I'm not sure how much my alterations will cost yet, but it is looking like it will just need to be hemmed!

  • Mine was $1000 but my mom surprised me by wanting to buy the dress when I fell in love with one that was $1400 (exactly why you don't try the expensive ones on!)  I hardly paid anything for accessories though so that helped a lot too.
  • My FI and I agreed on $1000 tops.  I went shopping and it came out to $940 with tax...lol I think he was hoping I would spend around $600-$700 but oh well.
  • I was willing to spend $3000, and my dress came in at about $2000 before alterations at Demetrios. I had also liked a less expensive dress from Pattis at Kleinfeld, but my mom wouldn't go for it!

    Shoes - $100; veil - TBD; jewelry - $150.
  • now i'm embarassed.  my budget was $5000.  dress/veil/shoes/hairpiece came to about $6500.

this isn't terribly uncommon in nyc but i'm surprised to be the most extravagent on this thread.

Don't be embarassed, that's what I spent for only dress and veil.  I have no regrets.
  • I was willing to go up to $1000, but my goal was to be around $500.  With tax, my dress came to about $600.  Even so, $600 for a dress that I'll only get to wear for one day seems like such a waste of money, but I really do love it and I'm going to donate it afterwards, so that makes me feel better about it.

    thanks!

i guess i was just surprised because of the prevalence of wedding tv shows that perpetuate this kind of thing.  i did buy my dress at kleinfelds (and my mother bought hers there too 30 years ago when it was in BK).  i was prepared to spend what we spent.  but by ny standards i almost felt thrifty.  and i do recognize how silly that is.

    i also LOVE my dress.
