Wedding Invitations & Paper

Invitations deathly formal?

One of my friends has been gracious enough to make my wedding invitaions for me.  She is so talented.  The other day she sent me photos of her first idea.  I think it is great and fits right in with my colors (scarlet, silver).  I forwarded the photos on to my mother and she isn't sure about having so much black on the invitations, and she is concerned that people will think it is an invitation to a funeral not a wedding.  Does it really look so deathly formal?

No, no one is going to think it's an invitation to a funeral.  Lots of people use black for their invitations.

I know this is a mock-up, but the text will be printed, no?
  • It's kind of dark for my taste, but it's really more a matter of what you like. I've never received an invite to a funeral, if that helps :)
  • Your mother's way overthinking this. Who has ever received a formal invitation to a funeral?!? Black is a pretty classic color and goes with anything.
  • I think your invite is great!  I agree with the above, many brides are using black.  Black and white are quite popular colors these days. You should be fine!
  • I think as long as the invitation is festive it's fine.

  • bbyckes it will be printed, I haven't decided on a font just yet.  We just wanted some spacing ideas

I was wondering if there was such a thing as an invitation to a funeral, I have never recived one, but then luckily so far the deaths in my family have been forseen (elderly grandparents).

  • i think black is fine. i used black pocketfolds and envelopes and i love them, PIB. What look are you going for for your font? Fun or scripty??

I found it really helpful to just browse invites and find the look of the wording I liked the most and then tried to replicate that look. GL! Its a great start!
