September 2012 Weddings

FI is really pissing me off.

So, we got the drive in as our venue. Yay!

But, while we were meeting with the owner he said we can screen a double feature. Which is fine, but not really a priority for me. Especially since it woudln't be a classic. It would just be whatever they are playing that night.

Since we left FI somehow has it in his head that we no longer need a reception. That we will just play a movie. I am not paying to take all our friends and family to the movies. That's insane. I keep explaining that there is still going to be a reception. He just isn't letting go of the movies being played.

How do I get it though to him that our wedding is not a giant movie date with our friends and family?

Re: FI is really pissing me off.

  • The party line that gets used a lot here on the Knot is that the reception is a thank you to your guests for coming. Try explaining to him that just showing them a movie is not showing enough gratitude for your guests making the time to dress up, come, etc?
  • I agree, I would explain the reasons for having a reception, and what its supposed to do....
  • I am in the 1% of people in this world who hate movies, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think thats really distracting. If guests wanted to watch a movie, they would have stayed home or gone to a theater for that purpose. I'm not slamming your idea, but I think that's a bit excessive. Tell FI what PP's said.... the point of the party is to celebrate your marriage, not solely to watch a movie.
  • Explain to him that the reception comes first, then the movie is kinda like the afterparty. At least I hope that's how you're doing it.
    Anniversary
  • Yeah, I never even considered showing a movie. It was the owner's idea to do and FI got stuck on it.

I'm not a huge fan of movies. The drive-in in Tulsa is just a landmark. Google Tulsa drive-in. It burned down a month after our second date. Our second date was at the drive-in, and that is when FI asked me to be his girlfriend. That's the whole reason I wanted to do the wedding there. Simply b/c it was special to our relationship and to a city I love. Never did I intend to show a movie.
