NWR: My grandma is in the hospital

My grandmother is in the hospital. If anyone remembers a while ago I posted about my grandma having dementia and just really causing a lot of pain and stress for my family. She refuses to leave her house though she can't live on her own. She won't cook, clean, or DO anything. She can't drive, she doesn't live, she just exists. Anyway, my parents couldn't get ahold of her Friday afternoon until they got to her hosue Saturday afternoon. She lives 45 minutes away so they drive every week to check on her, call her every night to make sure she takes her medicine and eats. They found her on the floor in the living room. She had fallen sometime in the past 24 hours, couldn't hear the phone, couldn't hear my dad banging on the door to come in. She was taken by albulance to the hospital Ended up that her hip was broken and she had surgery yesterday. It was yesterday morning and it supposedly went well but it was the worst case scenario for broken hips. She'll be in the hospital for a few days, then be moved to rehab, then be moved into a nursing home or living situation.

There is somewhat of a blessing in disguise here. This was the final straw, my grandmother will not be returning to her home. She has no idea thats happening yet. Dementia causes her to be verbally aggressive so it could be a blowout when she finds out. But it is SUCH a blessing because she can't live alone, it is not safe for her and too much stress for my family. She will finally be getting the help she needs. Now my parents have to start the tedious process cleaning out her house and deciding what to do with it...it will be a long process because she hasn't cleaned it in years...its a mess, much like those "hoarder" houses, but moreso with filth than clutter :( Just keep my grandma's healing process in your prayers. Thanks so much.

So sorry to hear about your grandma Rachel.  But like you said, maybe it is a blessing in disguise because now she will get real care and you won't need to be as worried about her.  I hope her rehab goes well and that she'll eventually be able to get up on her feet again.  Praying for you all!

Prayers are coming your way!!  I'm so sorry to hear she fell and broke her hip.  :(  It's definitely a blessing in disguise - I can tell you from experience.  We moved my grandma into an assisted living place last August and at first I hated it and so did she.  She and I wanted her home, but my mom and sister wouldn't let her go home.  Now I can finally see it's much better for her, and she's adapted.  She has alzheimer's pretty bad, and she has a few days where she wants to go home and she's gonna run away - but most days she understands she needs to be there.  It's really hard in the beginning, but it will definitely get easier I promise!!

Praying for your family, Rachel. I know what you mean about a blessing in disguise. I pray she takes the news better than you all expect her to. <3
