Weekend Update

My weekend was pretty eventful even though I should have been resting which I'm regretting now because I still feel pretty sick :(

Friday, I was not at work. I rested well that day/night.

Saturday, FI and I had an appointment with a travel medicine clinic to get vaccines for our HM. Since we're both on antibiotics, we only got Hep A and brought home the tablets for the typhoid vaccine which we start in 2 weeks. We have to go back next month for a polio booster and tetanus and then we'll be all set!

I also just about finished the invitations. I ran out of ribbon with 10 to go so I'll get them done tonight when I get more ribbon. Here's the final product (the ribbon is popping up on the left in this pic, but IRL it lays flat and even):

Then I had my first dress fitting. I love my dress SO MUCH. They're doing the bustle and taking the top in a bit for now and I'll have my next/last fitting 3 weeks before the wedding.

Here's the front:

I decided to go with a French bustle. I really hate both options but I decided this was the lesser of 2 evils for my dress. I might have the seamstress cut the ribbons of my belt and attach it to my dress instead. I have to decide on that for next time.

And here are my shoes! I need to break them in, the backs hurt.

Yesterday, I woke up at 7 and then again at 8:30 and then again at 11:30. We had a Devils game at 5 and FI's friends came for it so we got to the arena really early. And we lost. I wish I had stayed on my couch!

Last night I watched the Oscars. I LOVE JENNIFER LAWRENCE SO MUCH.

Tell me about your weekend!

Re: Weekend Update

  • OMG Rdr, you look gorgeous in your dress. I just want to cry!!!
My weekend was too busy and I'm exhausted beyond belief.  My show opens in less than two weeks now.
Friday I had to be at the theater to run the house.  The show was really good, scary and creepy! Saturday I had rehearsal from 10-5 I was dancing the entire time.  I was exhausted and so sore.  We stayed in on Saturday night, watched a movie.

Sunday I had rehearsal from 12-5 more dancing, my feet hate me right now.  So does my back. After we met my family for dinner to celebrate my mom's bday, I had seen my family in a few weeks it was nice to catch up. We made it home just in time for The Walking Dead, after watching that and the talking dead. I switched it over to the Oscars. I should have gone to bed.  I loved Jennifer Lawernce's dress. My back was aching all last night so I did not sleep well on top of being exhausted.

    Is it 4pm yet?????

  • Your invitations and dress are gorgeous!!!!  Just an FYI when you guys get your tetanus shot, make sure to get it on your non dominant arm.  I had to get one (my doctor thought it was a good idea since I was a hairstylist at the time???) and I just remember my arm hurted for a few days.

Friday night I went out to dinner with my friend's for my friend's birthday.  We went to a new Puerto Rican restaurant and it was amazing.  I ate way too much.  Then we went out for a few drinks to celebrate my friend's engagement.

Saturday I did some laundry and cleaned the house.  Then my friend and I went to Michael's to get some stuff for her wedding.  There was a TON of wedding stuff on clearence so she was able to get her cake topper, ring bearer pillow, flower girl basket and wedding favors.  We have to order pink jordan almonds and I found some for 4.97/lb so that was a good find.  Saturday night BF and I went out for sushi, we were suppossed to go play pool and have some drinks but he was too tired.  We were home by 9pm.

Sunday we did our grocery shopping and then just hung around (I'm trying to catch up on Downton Abbey).  Took Quigs for a walk, then bf made dinner.  I gave Quigs a bath and then after dinner gave BF his haircut.

This weekend is going to be crazy, so I'm really savoring this Monday for some reason lol.

BTW-what's the average time of a wedding dress/BM dress/flower girl dress appointment?  I have to go Saturday at 11am, but wasn't told how long it was going to take.  I'm figuring two hours for the bride and an hour for everyone else just to be safe.

  • You're so pretty.  I seriously am going to bawl my eyes out during your wedding.  If you do end up with a videographer, that will be me sobbing on your tape.

Friday I had a GS Babysitting event right after work at the same hotel my parents dropped me off at before I went to Germany in 2006.  I got super emotional about the whole thing.  It was mostly uneventful, but I feel like every time I work with kids, I feel more strongly about spanking.  If these parents would spank their kids, they might not act like that in public.  We had a 3 year old who kept running and screaming and knocking everyone's stuff over (needed to be spanked), and a 5 year old who got to the same point.  We also had the cutest little 4 year old girl who was panicked that the other kids wouldn't like her, so I snuggled her for a few minutes and then she went and played.  And towards the end of the night we had a 16 month old who was overtired and screaming and bawling her head off and ended up spitting up all over everything.  Her dad came and got her and her siblings.  I left early to go home and make tuna pizza :)

Saturday I threw a party, which turned out to be the worst idea ever.  I was paranoid for most of the time that everyone was too loud (our walls are super thin and our neighbors have kids).  M's birthday present was also delivered.  I lasted a grand total of 5 hours before I showed it to him because I've been that excited about it.  I bought him an autographed Bobby Charlton jersey (click for bio) from the 1963 FA Cup, which Man U won.  When I showed it to him, he saw the front, which was just folded so you could see the crest, and he was like "Yeah, I think that's the year they won..." and started to pull out his phone to check, and then I flipped it over so he could see the autograph, and he ran out of my bedroom demanding someone take him to buy a ring.  It kind of made my night.

Yesterday M and I cleaned up, then he headed home and I stayed in bed and watched Secret Life all day.  My roommate and I had our first roomie night and ordered sushi and watched Clue.  :-)

  • I am doing The Producers, it's so much dancing but so much fun!

Last night's episode was pretty good. Not nearly as good as last week I thought.  It will be interesting to see how it all progresses.

  • RDR - you look so beautiful in your dress! I love the whole thing. Your invites look amazing too!

Friday FI and I went out to dinner with Lunarsongbird and her hubbs for her b-day! We went to an amazing restaurant downtown and had 5 full courses of bliss! It was so much fun to have good food, great wine and get all girlie to celebrate!

Saturday I found out that one of FMIL's friends wants to throw a shower for me. I'm so touched because I don't know this woman very well but she is such a sweet person. So thoughtful! I also finally found jewelry and belts for the BMs...so that was a huge relief. Then we went to dinner with FI's parents and one of his GM's. I ate way too much pasta, but it was wonderful.

Sunday we got a big snowstorm. Of course I decided to go out in the weather and run errands all day. Now i'm wishing i'd stayed home and been lazy like you're supposed to do on snow days...because I so don't want to be at work right now! Watched the Oscars last night. I really didn't think Argo should have won best pic. Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie. But best pic? I really thought it should have been Lincoln or Les Miserables. JMHO though!

RDR-Yeah, I'm going to block off about 2.5 hours now.  My friend knows what she wants for her wedding dress and told us to pick what we want in the color she picks or black.  I love she's so flexible.

  • RDR: your dress and your invites are so pretty!  And so are you, of course!

Buddy:  You are such a good friend for spending so much of your time helping with your friend's wedding.

I feel like I didn't do anything this weekend.  On Saturday I did a 5 mile run.  Sunday I went grocery shopping, filed my taxes, and cleaned my apartment.  Isn't my life so exciting and grand?  I also did P90X plyometrics.  That video kicked my butt; I am surprised I am not sore this morning.  Oh and the Red Wings won both of their games this weekend, yay!

  • Rdr, where are you going for your honeymoon?  I feel like I could probably stalk you and find out but that's creepy so I'll just ask.  Because that is far too many shots for me to get.  :)

We're seeing our first wedding reception/ceremony venues this week.  I'm pretty excited but also a little nervous as I don't really want to screw this part up (it's kinda a big deal!)

This weekend, I figured out my sewing machine is broken.  And will cost almost as much as it's worth to fix...so I guess that means I need a new one.  But of course, I want a decent one (my old one was just very basic) and those seem to cost far far too much money.  Any recommendations?  Specifically, the machine will be used for quilting so I want at least the option to add an open toe darning/free motion foot and walking foot.  And a large working surface would be great.

  • G'dammit Rach! Why do you have to be so dang gorgeous?!?!?

Lets see...this weekend was mostly bananas. Friday night was quiet though, I left the office (after having a b!tch sesh with a co-worker about the temp, who BTW, say's MIT is just a 2 year trade school. Yep. She really believes it, too. I'm still dying inside.) I ordered a butt ton of wings and cheese fries and went home to grub with Bean and Mom. Mom and I actually had a nice time watching TV together in her room and chatting. We tend to fight a lot, so it was nice. Then Bean came along and we watched episodes of Dr. Pol (his favorite show) until he passed out with his feet in my mom's face.

Saturday we spent the whole day researching Elijah Muhammad and helping Bean put together his project for Black History Month. I was actually kind of surprised that he was given Elijah Muhammad, because of the extreme controversy that surrounds him and the NOI. He learned a lot, though. In the end, that's the whole point. Plus, he really enjoyed the project. He has to give a presentation, and he's a bit nervous about getting up in front of the whole class and presenting.

Saturday afternoon, I went shopping for a dress for this weekend. I ended up in NY & Co. and bought a butt ton of work clothes (PSA: they're having a BOGO on all their pants-online, too). Then ran home, changed, and el Senor and I headed to a very late VD dinner.

Sunday was more research, supervising Bean while he typed up his paper, and then grocery shopping. El Senor and I ended the night by watching Trouble With the Curve. It was just ok. I love baseball movies, and this one just didn't quite cut it for me.

[QUOTE]G'dammit Rach!

<div>I'm in love with my Janome 2212.  You can get the FMQ foot and walking foot, but it doesn't have a very large work surface.  It also doesn't look like it works with any of their extension tables. :(</div><div>
</div><div>ETA: Mine was under $150, but the big deal for me was the location of the bobbin.  I LOATHE the bobbins that sit on top, where you basically have to pull everything off and apart to get to them - my fingers just don't do well with it.  This one is front loading, which is much more manageable for me.</div>

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Weekend Update : Thanks so much, Allusive!  It could totally be slipping my mind, but which BM dresses did you decide to go with?  I really liked Argo as well but I wanted Silver Linings Playbook or Zero Dark Thirty to take home best picture. I didn't see Lincoln (it's not really my type of movie) or Les Mis (not a fan of musical movies).

We went witht he Victoria's Secret maxi dresses:

We found this belt at Target which matches perfectly:

And this necklace at Charlotte Russe for my BM (minus the earrings)

My MOH is going to wear earrings from Target (similar to these), but we're going to spray paint them to match the necklace above:

  • rdr- That dress is gorgeous!!

Peek- If I was in that situation with all those kids doing that at once, I would probably cry. That gift sounds so wonderful!

This weekend was insane and for as much as I wanted to get done, I felt like I hardly did. Friday, the FI and I went to go pick up his new couches and afterwards we went and celebrated national Margarita day with my family and just relaxed. Saturday morning I was supposed to file my taxes and go over the budget with my parents (who are paying for my wedding) when in actuality I didn't file my taxes and my parents told me how much I could spend and that was it haha. I did finalize my side of the guest list though but I'm stil waiting on FI to get his mom's side done (hopefully this week). After that I went and watched FI in his tennis playoffs. He got hit in the nuts twice!! I wanted to punch his opponent in the face! He was in pain all day. Saturday night my parents threw us an engagement party. I was so exhausted by the end of the day I just passed out at 11:00.

Sunday FI had more tennis and I went to church. We were supposed to go get my ring insured but we are dumb and figured the jeweler would be open on a Sunday... haha nope. We were also supposed to talk with his mom about the guest list and when she would like to meet my parents but she was "sick" (her typical excuse for when she doesn't want to do anything). So FI and I just played outside all day which was nice since we haven't had good weather all month.

One exciting thing that did happen this weekend was that FI's father gave us a hint that he might pay for our HM. He was discussing rehearsal ideas with us and he threw in there that he wanted us to start getting ideas in there about where we want to honeymoon so he can arrange for that. I was shocked and I didn't know what to say. I think FI and I are going to try to talk to him about that later on and see what his plans are.

  • I love all of these dresses. Rdr, you look gorgeous! Beanbot, which dress did you get??

I love the teardrop shape! These are pretty BIG...but that's what I wanted. Since their dresses are so light colored...they needed a pop of color. Plus I wanted them to look kind of Southwest Chic. I think we're getting there!

BTW - I love NY&CO. I just got two pairs of sunglasses this weekend there for $5 each. Unbelievable!

I had never shopped there before, but I was at a different store in the mall that is right next to it, so I decided to pop in on a whim. When I saw the BOGO deal on pants, I was like "HELL YEAH". They had some super cute short trench coats/spring coats on sale 20% off and I really really wanted to get one, but what I needed was work clothes. So, I sadly passed. I did walk around the store and touched each coat lovingly, though. Hahaha...I'm a dork.
