Plated Dinner Questions

Hey ladies- first post on this board, I have 2 questions:

I am wondering if anyone has thought about doing menu cards even though you're having a plated dinner and guests already chose which food choice on the RSVPs?? Someone I spoke to just told me that if you give people menu cards, guests will read the other meal options and change their minds, creating chaos for the servers. I don't think this is what would happen, and I really like the look of the menu card folded in each napkin, but I wanted to see if anyone else agrees/disagrees.

Also, I was at a wedding where there was a plated dinner and no one at our table knew to put our escort card at our seat so that the servers knew who chose what meal option. Should I make a sign at the escort card table saying something like "please place your escort card at your seat"?

Personally I think having a menu card when they already picked their entree is a total waste of money.  I do think that at the escort card table you should have a little sign about leaving it visible at their table - we're having a plated dinner (choice of chicken or filet) and we're doing the same thing.

I agree with PP about the menu.  Since they already made their decision they would be a waste of money.  You can like the look all you want but they would be completely pointless.

I think you could either make a sign for the escort card table or you could go a step further and assign not only tables but seats as well so that the placecards would already be at their seats.

I agree with PP about the waste of money on menu cards.  If you really like the idea of having a card folded into the napkins, how about a card with a message from you and the FI, saying Thank You for sharing the day with you two?  I saw something similar on pinterest, and it may satisfy the whole "card in napkin" idea without being redundant.

WE are thinking of doing a framed menu for each table that has the guests names beside what they chose.
    Example:

Chicken in a white white terragon sauce, season vegetables and roasted potaotes
    Karen, Jerry, John

Salmon in creamy dill sauce, seasonal vegetables and roasted potaotes
    Walter, Christina, Alexander

Pork tenderloin with peppercorn sauce, seasonal vegetables and roasted potaotes
    Mary, Pauline

I agree that a sign at the escort card table works.

What would be the point of this?  Just wondering.

i've only been to a few where i have to choose my meal before (not a fan). most near me are table side waiter order so a menu is necessary. if you choose your meal a month in advance what's the point of the menu?

people tend to forget what they order, which is why we considered making the menus.  They could easily wait 30 minutes for the meal to come, but we figured if we have the time adn suuplies, we may make the menu cards.

Thanks for all of the input ladies! I thought a menu would be good to inform guests what is included in their meal- since on the RSVP it will only say "chicken" or "fish." I know its not necessary, but when I go to weddings I think its nice to see what all of the courses are and just incase someone is allergic to one of sauces/ingredients/etc. I'll probably just write up a thank you and put that into the napkin as one of the PPs said, good suggestions :)

If you are making a sign for the escort card table, how are you phrasing it? I don't think I want to do place cards if I can make the sign clear enough for guests to understand and hopefully follow..

I think people are wise enough to know they need their escort card, especially when others grab theirs. Along with putting something on my card to let the servers, and guests, know what they have- like S for steak, C for chicken... I'm going to give my coordinator a list before the wedding of how many of each meal are at each table. So like, table 4 will have 8 chickens and 5 steaks... so that will make it slightly easier for them to deliver the food.

I agree that people know to take their escort card, the issue is a lot of people just stick it in their pocket and such. I've been to two weddings in the past year where guests did not know to place it at their seat so that servers could see the meal choice. I do agree with putting something on the card- we're planning on placing tiny circle stickers (red for steak, yellow for chicken, green for veggie) but if people don't know to put the place card somewhere visible, its pointless.

We had a plated dinner and also provided menu cards.  It was an opportunity to better describe the dish, to list the ingredients in the salad and to put the cake flavors available for dessert. To the best of my knowledge, no one tried to change their order from what we indicated on their place card.

It was a little detail and it probably wasn't necessary, but we didn't feel it was a waste (and we DIYed the cards so it was pretty cheap).

Oh man, I hope our guests don't do that! Hopefully they see everyone else's cards out and will realize :/

This is very weird to me. Where I'm from, you pick your meal choice that day at the wedding. No one picks these when they send back their RSVP... plus how would I know what I would to eat months from now?

Why can't they just pick what they want that day instead of on the RSVP cards?... that way you can do menu cards and you don't have to worry about people changing their minds.
