That's the one LVB made me buy!  Along with some batteries called "sex cells."

  • I'm friends with both but I hang out more with V then I ever did with C. I always felt welcome when I went out with the guys where I didn't always feel welcome with the girls. I just feel bad for him because this is the second woman that has done this to him. He is a wonderful guy and doesn't deserve this at all.

Not typically, but one night LVB and Birdie were at my house watching Grey's Anatomy and drinking wine.  And then somehow someone got the idea that we should go to the sex store.  So then LVB picked out a vibrator for me and some lube for Birdie.

You all, can I tell you about work?  Ok thanks.  I got in trouble.

One of my favorite old ladies fell down today for the second time in a week and had to go to the hospital.  Her face is all kinds of black and blue and she broke her nose.  But she has dementia, a UTI, and is one of the few residents who is ambulatory.  So even though she has three alarms on her, her chair, and her bed, and her call light is in reach, she keeps trying to get up by herself, and then she falls.  I run toward her room as soon as I hear the alarm, but because of the UTI, she's trying to get up all the time, and sometimes I can't get there in time.

I had 11 other residents to take care of tonight, so I can't just be this lady's full time sitter.  But the DON wrote me up, without addressing what was I supposed to do instead or what can I do in the future to prevent this lady from falling.

    Sadface :(

  • Oh, KyKate.  :(  Are you at a nursing home?  I think those things just happen sometimes.
  • You know, it's actually up to the higher ups at the nursing home to develop a fall precaution and prevention protocol for the high fall risk patients.  She shouldn't have yelled at you or written you up.

Yes, I'm a CNA at a nursing home while I'm in nursing school.  I just started there on March 31st, and I've only worked a few shifts without a preceptor now, so I'm kind of freaked out.

Oh I know.  The charge nurses were empathetic, which made me feel a little better. The DON just waltzed in there as soon as the incident report was filed, asked who Mrs. K's aide was, and then wrote me up.  Biitch.

  • I used to help take care of my great-grandma when she was still alive. Normally we could leave her alone for a couple hours and have no issues. I was at work and my grandparents had gone to a ballet. I walked in the door and found her on the floor. She blamed one of the cats for tripping her but I'm pretty sure it was a magazine that had fallen off of one of the chairs. It was one of the worst nights to come home to.

I'm 17 and barely 130 pounds, she was 96 and 180 pounds of dead weight and I couldn't get her off the floor. I called 911 and told them it wasn't an emergency I just needed help getting her off the floor and into her bed. She refused to go to the hospital and there was no way I could force her.

I couldn't get ahold of any of my family and was freaking out. I had to call a friend who calmed me down once the paramedics left and until my grandparents got home.

  • If it makes you feel better, Kate, I've seen those incident reports.  The DON has to file them, but they pretty much make no difference in your position at the snf as long as you don't get a ton of them.  I think pretty much all of the CNAs I know have a handful because all patients get delirious when they get infections or constipation.
  • Thanks Mica, that makes me feel a little better.  I hated getting in trouble, but I also was in tears watching Mrs. K go out on a stretcher tonight.  I feel more obligation to her than to my supervisors at the snf, and I am having a hard time shaking the guilt.

  • And Ciara, I can totally relate to that story.  I have a few residents who are bedridden and deadweight, and some are too heavy for me to even turn on their sides without help from someone else.  I would have been in the same boat if I walked in on someone on the floor.

  • I felt bad for her because I had no clue how long she had been there. I really wanted her to go to the hospital but she wasn't having it. I couldn't just leave her there so I it was the right thing to do. You just feel so helpless sometimes when there isn't anything that you yourself can do.

  • Wow, Ciara, what a traumatizing thing to find your grandma like that.

I don't know what's wrong with me.  The Office and Grey's Anatomy have me crying like a fool.  Thank goodness H isn't here to see me acting so silly.
  • Grey's has me crying like a fool too. For me it's all the hormones.

  • Maybe I have hormones too.  It's the problem with stopping the BCP.  My hormones go nuts every month.
