I think I might lose my job...

This is slightly terrifying.  So as some of you may remember I work for the government.  And I am a temporary employee.  Seeing as the government is very unstable about money right now, I think I am getting fired.  We are having an all employee’s meeting on Thursday.  I think all the temporaries are getting fired.  That means both me and my BF will lose our jobs.  I don't take unemployment seeing as I still live with my parents but I am kind of upset.  So I could use your prayers that I don't get fired.  :/  And maybe happy lolz cats to cheer me up?

Edit - Sorry, I missed your response above.

this sucks Ray.  I'm pretty worried too...  I'm a federal employee at the FAA, and if you've noticed anything in the news, Congress is leaving for a MONTH without passing anything to put FAA-ers back at work.  so far I haven't been laid off or furloughed, but 5 weeks or more of no funding?  I don't think we stand a chance.  I'm the one who makes the paycheck that pays the bills (mortgage, utilities, groceries, everything except the phone and internet!) and DH's check goes to pay for the phone, internet, and his student loans.  thankfully, we have about $10,000 in an emergency fund so if something happens, we have a short period of time to recover.  do you have any kind of emergency fund?  I know it's extremely hard for a student to recover from a job loss.  :(

    http://www.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/08/02/faa.funding.impasse/index.html

hopefully the meeting isn't to lay you off.  I've never seen an all-hands meeting like that for lay-offs.  normally they just hand you a letter and speak to you privately.  at least from my experience, that kind of meeting isn't a lay-off.  try to stay positive.  and go ahead and start looking around.  it's very unstable right now, and I'm almost positive that temps and contractors will start getting laid off in the next few weeks.  you're smart and you can easily find something else if you absolutely have to!  :)

feel free to PM me and we can commiserate together.  :)

we won't know.  so far we aren't furloughed, but if they don't pass something soon then we're fair game.  Congress adjourned until after Labor Day in September, so then they'll start the fight back up after then and it could still be days/weeks for them to decide on something.

check with your school for student jobs.  my DH did that when he was in school.  he student taught for 40-60 hrs a week, did 10-15 hrs a week for the school and then 10-20 hrs a week working at a bank in the evenings.  he also took a couple night classes at the university.  the school stuff they let him do at home and in his free time (recording music samples, etc.)

when I was in school, I took 16-18 credit hours, worked 25 hours at a law firm doing temp work, and then taught music lessons every evening.  my social time was limited, but I made it through school with no loans so I'm happy.

    you can do it!  :)

and if they do lay-offs at an all-hands, I would be really upset!!  keep us updated!
