If you don't use a calligrapher...what do you do?

If I can't find a local calligrapher that I like - what should I do to address my invitations? I have decent handwriting, but part of me thinks it will look weird to have hand addressed envelopes if the writing isn't 'fancy'. But I also think labels might be consdiered tacky.

Suggestions?

I did "faux" calligraphy. I printed a calligraphy font on the envelopes and then traced over it with a pen to look real.

You can buy a calligraphy kit from Borders or WalMart to name a few places and teach yourself a basic font. Even Michael's has some kits as well.

-buy labels
-print on the envelope
-write them out yourself, no one will ever care if you didn't go with a calligrapher. Your marriage isn't going to be domed.

If your handwriting is at least above average I would just hand write it. I figure maybe 10% of guests would even notice. I'd avoid labels though. I just don't think they look as nice. Or, do any close friends or bridesmaids have really nice handwriting?

I hand wrote mine. I always write in All Caps and just did them the same. They look fine. Yes, Calligraphy would have looked better, but I really didn't want to spend $200 on having someone address envelopes that will be thrown away by most people. I first attempted to print them off on my home printer, but after it ate an envelope, I scraped that idea!

If you dont mind mailing them we are using a girl in Pittsburgh. We are currently not living there so we are mailing them to her. She has done friends and families invites and they have really liked her. She is also really reasonable even w/ shipping. She is charging us 50 cents an envelope. We actually just booked her and will be mailing the invites to her soon (I hope) If you are interested her email is logansmmc at comcast dot net. She sent us handwritten samples and all. If you have nice handwriting I would just handwrite them. Technically according to formal etiquette, wedding invitations should always be adressed by hand (either calligraphy or regular handwritten). Although it's becoming increasingly acceptable to print the addresses on the evelopes. no one can fault you for handwriting them as long as your handwriting isn't awful.

It's insanely high. You can get them for like 15 bucks from office supply stores.

Seriously? Address the envelope yourself. However you want to. No one is going to pay attention. They are just going to throw the envelope away. They aren't going to frame it or anything.
