Photographer keeping my deposit?

We gave a deposit for a photographer and he still has not cashed the $200 deposit check.  We met with him 3 weeks ago and I emailed him to see if he was going to cash this and he said he cashes deposit checks every few months!!!! I do not find this acceptable! This is a lot of money for me to be waiting to clear. I then got curious and started looking at other photographers prices.  I think this guy is on the high side.  He offers a 6 hour 2 photographer package with one brides album and two parents album. he then offers digital coverage and two photographers but it is about $3600.  I found another person who lives closer offering almost the same thing for about $1000 less.  I wanted to honor my commitment to this photographer but after this I feel like it is not worth it! Thoughts? Thanks!

$3600 for coverage is common in this area- just for one shooter.   When I was looking for photographers, a lot of them in the style I liked where in the range of $2800-$3500.

He should cash your check though, but maybe you can ask him to do it sooner?

Our photogpraher, who is having 2 shooters, is $3700, so its in the same price range. I think thats pretty common.

3600 is pretty middle of the road.  Ask him to cash the check.  I doubt he will mind.

I'd ask him to cash the check next week as it's throwing off your checkbook.
That price range is right about what we were quoted for what we wanted, so I don't think it's out of range.

His price seems right- the others could be less experienced then him, hence the price difference.

As for the check, ask and see what he says. I'm sure he'll go along with it. If he says no, can't you just budget that it's already gone so it won't mess up your bank account?

That is the middle of the road prices for photography in the Boston area--ours was $3500

I'm sure if you ask him to cash the check he will, otherwise if you really think it's going to mess up your checkbook see if you can give him a deposit in cash instead and just get a receipt
