Finished my first DIY

6 months after I started our cake topper...it's finished!  I'm a little disappointed in the cluster of color in the one corner but overall we both like it.  I did a little at a time..after a while all the crystals started to look the same.. right before I finished it I said to FI "wow, wouldn't it suck if I needed one more and I ran out?!"  Wouldn't you know it thats EXACTLY what happened. Only me, lol   I did end up finding a crystal under the cluster of bigger ones. yay!

  • Looks great!  I didn't even notice the cluster until you said something.

Is that a crafty eddy topper?

  • When I say it took me 6 months, I wasnt joking. I used tweezers to pick up the crystal, dab it in glue and stick it on. Soooo glad its over.

  • It's so cute! I haven't even thought of cake toppers yet. Add that to the list!
  • We both really wanted the sugar skull cake toppers from Etsy, but theyre like 75$ and I cant justify spending that much on something that doesn't really fit with the other decor. Plus, its not like anyone will remember it anyway so... I really dont mind its not "perfect".

  • Awesome job it looks amazing.  And I didn't notice the clusters until I searched for it.

I am making our cake topper too.  The one we found and really like is 80 bucks before shipping.  I am making a nicer version for maybe 20 such a big difference. I hope mine comes out as nice as yours did

Girl, pat yourself on the back! You did a great job! I really dont know what 'cluster' you are talking about and i've looked at it twice. Wherever it is, please know people wont notice. Is that a wooden letter?

  • Of course it will have the end to stick into the cake and on her left hand will be a swarski crystal on each side.  I love the fact that it is double sided and very clean cut and classic.

  • Posted it before I was ready and it will not let me edit so here is the rest lol.
The crystal is her diamond ring and I am so happy my mom used to own a jewelry business for 15 years because I don't have to buy the crystals.  I am also cutting it out of a better metal that is non toxic and will not rust.  The predone version I thought was way to expensive and I wanted to make it myself. It seems more personal and I feel proud of myself when I accomplish something like this.

You should feel very proud of yourself because yours came out superb!

That is super cute and very unique! Youre lucky I've never seen that before..Id bedazzle the groom with white and black crystals as buttons and a tux and some light gold crystals for a dress. Super jealous! Get to workin so we can see the finished masterpiece!

  • I sure will.  Im trying to cut the metal by the end of the month.

I love your idea for the bedazzle for the groom tux buttons!  I don't know if I want to beddazle with gold though.  I am not having any gold anywhere and really not the biggest fan.  If my stupid siggy would change like I told it too and if my ticker would update as well you could see my colors are royal blue, white, and yellow.  The accent is silver/white gold.  What else do you think would look good?

Theres always those clear shimmer color crytals that look silvery in different light. Maybe you can do that along the hem if you don't want to do the whole dress? Idk...just throwing ideas out there... you can always leave it or paint it solid and just add some "buttons" or a blingy ring on her hand. Edit: by silvery i meant they just reflect light and sometimes look blue, yellow, orange, etc...

  • Ohh I like the bottom of the dress I might even alter small pearls and crystals as the outline on the bottom and the crystal for her engagement ring.  I also will do a bowtie and buttons for the groom and heck maybe his shoes lol and give the bride a sweetheart neckline.  I wish she had a veil but hey C'est La Vie

  • You can always take 1 or 2 pearls and a tiny piece of tulle and glue it on! Though I think that the small 1mm crystals would be big enough for her tiny lil noggin lol

  • Ohh that sounds phenominal!  I haven't decided on my train yet but I am thinking about a long cathedral length.  I am getting married in one lol.  And you are right no bigger then 1 mm.  I should have plenty of real crystals up in my mom's attic.  We have been using them for so many years for Mardi Gras.  I'm planning on using them for something else with the wedding I just haven't decided.  As long as it's clean cut and makes you go wow I am happy lol

You are so right.  Why can't creativity flow like this all the time.  Also why I say 2 heads are better then 1.  You don't always see what someone else can.  Thank you so much and I can't wait to show mine off when its cut and bedazzled.

And again I love your D.  It's nothing like I have ever seen before.  I have seen letters before but nothing like this.  What is it made out of, wood?
