VIQ-Very Important Questions

Hi Ladies,

I'm not sure if this belongs on this board but you ladies offer really good advice. Its time for us to start visiting potential venues and I'm trying to gather a list of very important questions that I would like to ask. Things that are crucial to the ceremony and reception. Obviously some aspects may be more important to some of us than others. Please provide any examples of questions or concerns that should be addressed during the visits. TIA

you should specifically ask about things that are hidden costs. some that come to mind...
    set up fee
    tear down fee
    linen rental fee
    table/chair rental fee
    lighting packages
    a/v packages
    extra rental hours
    parking fees
    etc.

some things to consider for the comfort of yourself/your guests
what is the rental fee/what does it include/how long is the rental time
do they require certain caterers or can you bring your own
do they require you to use their alcohol/barstaff or can you bring your own
    parking situation
    enough bathrooms for guests?
    coat check
    acoustics of the room/s
    etc.

good luck! this is by no means an exhaustive list.

Here are a few I can think of off the top of my head:

-Do they have food & beverage minimums?
-Do you provide the alcohol or do they have full bar?
-Is there a time limit? Or do you have the facility for the entire day?

Here is a site that may help you as well:  http://www.frugalbride.com/receptionvenuetips.html

Don't forget to ask questions. Have fun. And take a notebook or pen and paper with you so that you can jot notes down as well as have a place to put info the different venues and vendors give you.

TK is a great place to get ideas and advice, too.

I can't for the life of me remember all the questions we asked, but I did buy a wedding planning book, whcih was fantastic at figuring out questions to ask.  You may want to try half priced books to see if you can find any decent ones.

All of the above responses were great feedback.  The only thing I can add is to make sure to ask if there's a place where you can get ready or hang out if you're not getting dressed at your house/hotel.  If they do have a place like a bridal suite, is it an additional cost?  I believe the bridal suite was an extra cost at the Franklin Park Conservatory.
I also agree with Missy, make sure to ask if you're the only event or if you have to share the space that day.  To me that was the deciding factor between other venues.

These are great! I only had a list of like 10 questions on my own. Everyone really helped me think of more important things. Thanks for the website tips too!
