October 2012 Weddings

Photographers, wooo!

This weekend FI and I are flying home to meet with photographers and taste cakes, yay!  We finally found several photographers we like after looking at a string of about 50 that we didn't, so we're meeting with them over the weekend.

Now that we have choices, though, how do we narrow them down?  For those of you who've found your photographers already, what questions did you ask? Any you wish you had asked?

  • I found this list of questions that I used because I had noooo idea how to interview a photographer.   Here's the link <clicky>  .(hopefully it works) There's a PDF and you just download that and print it out. It was super helpful.  We ended up just interviewing one and loved her thankfully because quite honestly figuring out a photographer was one of the more overwhelming tasks I've found so far, so hard to choose!

  • I asked to see a large selection of photos from one wedding, not just the best shots.
    Price.
Do you get the copyrights to the photos?
Do you get the high resolution images on DVD?
What happens if they are sick/unable to come the day of the wedding?

    etc.

  • One thing I noticed when searching for photographers is that some offer a 2nd photographer.  That would give you a variety of shots at different angles, etc.  Don't know if your looking for something like that, and even if its offered with the photographers you are meeting with, but its a nice option!  Definitely ask about copyrights release for your photos so you can print them at a photo lab of your choice, especially if you live far away from where your wedding is going to be.  Might want to ask if they have a time limit, the photographer we chose had some packages with unlimited time and some packages that were limited time coverage.

  • For me I wanted to make sure they were open to suggestions for poses, locations, etc. Also ask if they have back up equipment. Other than that we went mostly by personality. Make sure to pick someone you're comfortable around otherwise your pictures can come out stiff.
