DIY Invitations--first draft. Proof for me please! :)

It's going to be on ivory linen paper, but this is just the first draft. What do you think? :)

Does this wording sound right?
Do the fonts compliment each other?
Do you you think the tree needs to be slightly more golden in color to match the border?
And the biggest issue: Do you think there needs to be an address for Forsyth Park? It's a major landmark in Historic Savannah and I have found various different "addresses" that claim to be Forsyth Park. We are providing transportation from the hotels, so is an address essential?

  • Looks good to me...

    A few little things:

If you want the tree to match the gold border, I'd make the tree more gold

I read on an ettiquette site that "request the honour of your presence" is for church ceremonies, "request the pleasure of your company" is for non church ceremonies.  Not sure which one you're having.

I think 5:30 is technically considered afternoon, after 6 is considered evening

I don't think addresses go on the invitation.  I'd leave it as Forsyth Park.  I'd put the address on your wedding website (if you have one).

  • Wow...I guess I need to brush up on my invitation ettiquette! I didn't know about the distinction between chuch/non-church ceremonies or that 5:30 is not evening. Hmmm.

Thanks for the info!!!!!! That's very interesting! :)

So I am not big on etiquette, but I recently posted my invitation draft and here are the responses that I got (I used some of your wording originally as well):

When putting the time you do not have to start with "at" and it should say "after" not "past" because "past" is reserved for funerals. You also don't have to put "evening" or "afternoon" because that is assumed.

I think some of this is a little over the top, but I did take the advice and change mine. Also, I went to Martha Stewart's website b/c she has a section on invitation wording etiquette (I followed that in the end).   :)

    Hope that helps lol.

  • This is beautiful! Did you design these yourself? I've been looking for a free oak tree vector to design my own invite in Illustrator but I'm not finding one I like. Where did you get yours?

  • Very pretty invitations!  I love the tree!

To add to what PP said, here's the Emily Post site on wedding invite ettiquette:

    http://www.emilypost.com/weddings/wedding-invitations-and-announcements/335-wording-formal-wedding-invitations

Here's what I might do if I were writing the invitation:

    Together with their families

    Bride Name
    and
Groom Name (does he have just one "t" in Mathew? Or is it Matthew?)

Request the pleasure of your company at their marriage

Saturday, the twentieth day of October
    Two thousand twelve
    At half after five o'clock

    Forsyth Park
    Savanna, Georgia
  • Thank ladies!!! You guys are awesome! I really appreciate the help!

@cmhurst....yes, fi's middle name is "Mathew" with one T. Odd, I know. His mom was an english teacher and she will give you a huge explaination as to why Matthew should be spelled with one T. HAHA.

@Lmvo23...I did design these myself, but with a little help. I had the hardest time finding a tree as well!!! This was my inspiration, but I wanted the tree in the background:

A friend of mine recreated the tree for me and sent it to me in a jpeg format. If you want me to email it to you, I'd be happy to. Just send me a private message.
