My derm suggested natural toothpaste to help my chronicly dry lips. They're really bad, and nothing helps them. He said that the artificial flavors and chemicals in commercial toothpaste can be really drying and irritating to your lips, especially if you have sensitive skin (which I do). I really like my strong fake minty flavor though, and natural toothpastes kind of scare me

Any suggestions? Does anyone use one that they really like?

Re: Natural toothpaste?
I think I've heard Tom's is good.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
[QUOTE]I haven't used it, but this one has good reviews: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EJOQAG?ie=UTF8&tag=natuhealrest-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B001EJOQAG

I am an idiot, because I didn't even THINK about looking on Amazon for reviews. Sigh. Thanks, Any!

[QUOTE]I tried Burt's Bees, and it was NOT the "bees knees." It was pretty awful. I bought toothpaste that afternoon. I think I've heard Tom's is good.

I'm glad you said that, because left to my own devices that would have been my first choice because I LOVE Burt's products.

We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?

[QUOTE]Oh look. Another AE.

You realize acknowledging it is part of the problem, right?

About 3-4 liters. Plus other things as well.

[QUOTE]J&K, have you tried Tom's of Maine brand? I think that's all natural.

Me too, even now im all gross feeling on my lips and I need lip gloss. I only use the blistex lip conditioner because my lips are sensitive to most other ones. If its flavoured, I get a rasha nd that aint pretty.
[QUOTE]Thank you Nebb, yes I do. That's why I didn't actually respond TO her. My point was that it was an AE with exactly the same rhetoric.

Regardless, we could all see that. Acknowledging it just makes them keep going.
[QUOTE]Something I've tried that works really well is using a toothbrush or even a face scrub to exfoliate them. Then dab on some vaseline to wear overnight. You should be in good shape in the morning.

Yeah, I've heard good things about doing this too. Could be something to try if you haven't.

Batha and Body Works has an excellent scrub/moisturizing combo. It's in a tube, like chapstick, but part is a sugar scrub, and the other half is a soothing balm. FI has chapped lips 90% of the year and this is the only stuff that consistently works.

I use Aquaphor about 17 times a day, and definitely at night. When they're not super peely (because they get peely and ouchy), but just dry and gross I do use the toothbrush (or washcloth) to exfoliate them a little, but in the winter they get too cracked to do that.

Aw, I do feel your pain thought. In the beginning of the week my bottom lip was so dry that it cracked right in the middle and started bleeding. I had to slather on lip balm every 20 minutes for 2 days before it healed.

Yeah, mine do that. And of course, I pick at them, which is disgusting and makes it so much worse. I've gotten a LOT better at not doing that though. I thought when I stopped picking my lips would get 10x better and....nope. They still hate me. Year round too, though they don't crack and bleed in summer, thank god.

Thanks Cullen! I've tried Aveeno and a couple different kinds of the Neosporin and they're all meh to me.

Anytime. I wish the Aveeno had a better flavor to it. I miss the days of Dr. Pepper lip balm when I was younger lol. I would try the vaseline before going to bed idea too, I've heard that works pretty well in general for dry skin (hands, feet, elbows, whatever).
I had to put on lip balm while reading this thread, it made my lips feel self conscious heh.
