Losing weight is about 20 to 30 percent exercise and 80 percent diet. Sad but true! (unless you are a competitive athlete)
For exercise you should do what you find enjoyable, then you will stick to it. If you hate running, don't...you will find every excuse to avoid it.
I personally love the "Bar Method", a blend of pilates, yoga, ballet. It really works for me. It's based on the Lotte Berke method.
