Vellum Wrapped Candles

Can you wrap candles with vellum and not run the risk of it starting on fire? Might be a dumb question but.....

I want to wrap cheap candles in graphic vellum paper for the centerpieces but I don't want it to catch fire....and a vase would be an additional cost (so I'm trying to avoid it:) )

    I wrapped our unity candle in vellum -- of course it wasn't lit for very long -- but I think as long as it's not going to the very top of the candle (ie leave a good couple of inches from the top of the vellum to the top of the candle) you should be ok

    I am wrapping ours in vellum for our memorial candles.  Ditto PP, as long as it doesn't go all the way to the top, I think it will be fine.  Besides, if you ever watch a candle burn, it burns down through the center and not the outside of the candle first.

    Test it!  We're using vellum-wrapped votives and vellum as "lamp-shades."  We just tested it first at home in a safe environment.  We let them burn for a few hours on a surface we weren't worried about wax or fire damage.  It worked out fine but in our case the vellum wasn't directly exposed to a flame.  Vellum IS quite flammable so be careful :)!

    If you're putting these on a table to burn all night, I would definitely use a vase. I know you're concerned with the cost, but the Dollar Tree sells ones that would probably work perfectly for you -- and you'll save on candles because you won't have to use a pillar candle!
