If you were me...

...where would you go for your next trip?  As you may have seen me whine about, H travels for work, and one of the things he bribed me with when he asked if he could take the job is that we'd use some of the extra money to travel more.  We already went to Vegas in November.

So....we're looking to go away late March or early April, probably for 4-5 days. We'd been looking at going back to Vegas but then I started to wonder if we should go somewhere new.  Austin, TX?  New York (I've been, but H hasn't)?  Seattle?  Los Angles?  New Orleans?

Where would you go?  Warm weather would be nice, but is not totally necessary.  Affordability is a factor.  Bonus if Southwest flies there.  Any new ideas?  Or should we just go back to Vegas

Re: If you were me...

  • I vote New Orleans.  It is my favorite place in the States.  Key West is also good.  I would double check the Easter/Spring Break dates before heading to either of these places.

  • I say go to Boston! But I'm biased. I love California, H and I want to do a vacation down the West coast some time.

Why not go to the Bahamas?
  • Somewhere new.  Charleston, SC?  San Antonio.  Phoenix.  Denver.

  • In the US: Key West or Puerto Rico (not TECHNICALLY in the US, but you don't need a passport)

Out of the country: Costa Rica
  • Well LA is awesome, but I'm biased.

Charleston, SC and Savannah are supposed to be really pretty in the spring.

Can you swing Mexico? Or are passports a problem?

  • Oh yeah, and Santa Fe is the best city ever. And southwest flies to Albuquerque. You just have to rent a car and drive an hour. The food is absolutely amazing. There's a restaurant called Cafe Pasqual's which is my favorite. And there's a hot tub place called 10,000 waves where you can rent a private hot tub cabana.

  • Passports aren't a problem, I just wasn't thinking we'd do anything particularly extravagant.

I'd love to go to Denver but my friend is getting married there in September so I know we'll be going then.  Santa Fe could be an option...
  • Southwest flies to Reno...drive into Tahoe.  By April, the roads should be fine and it's beautiful there.  And they have casinos.  Score!

Check SWAvacations.com and see if they have any specials.  Sometimes you can find a great deal on there.  If you come to LA, you have to visit me though!

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

March and April are great times to come to Austin. Skip San Antonio.. too much road construction and the Alamo is not that interesting ;) We have bat colonies that fly out from under bridges at dusk, amazing views of the hill country, lots of local wineries, and B&Bs, funky hippy shopping areas, and unbelievable food.

    EDIT: Southwest flies here too!

  • Austin has SXSW in March if you're into indie/alternative music. it's March 17-21 this year.

boo SA, yay Austin. I like Austin. it's a cool place to visit, and only a 1.5 hour drive from me.

  • Oh my gosh - we are always talking about how we want to go to SXSW one of these years, but I totally forgot about it!  Perhaps this is our chance.
  • I vote for Santa Fe or Austin but I'm totally biased since I grew up in Santa Fe and went to school in Austin.  They're both great places with wonderful food.
  • I heard there's a place in Austin where you can get everclear margaritas.

  • New Orleans -- my favorite city ever. Plus, hurricanes are yummy!

Puerto Rico -- my family is from there and it is very beautiful. I haven't been in 20 years because they all moved to Florida (not sure why?! LOL), but it's on my vacation wishlist.

  • I'd go anywhere but Vegas. Nothing against Vegas, but there's a huge world out there and I personally don't like to keep going back to the same places. I'd rather go someplace new.
  • abba, DO IT!

  • New Orleans all the way. I am from there and there is no where else in the US like it. You can't beat the food, the fun, or the culture.

  • Can I just say that Jackson Hole, Wyoming, was ridiculously beautiful? It was also in some ways far more fun than San Fran... I haven't been to vegas, but I vote doing something different!
