Petals on hardwood?

Hey everybody! I love the look of petals being on hardwood floor. I've never seen an issue with them during the reception. Has anyone ever seen an issue with them? I've never seen anyone slipping on them or thinking it looked messy. We have to use the same space from the ceremony for the reception and we are having petals on the aisle for the ceremony.

Re: Petals on hardwood?

  • I imagine your venue would be the best to ask about this.
  • I have seen a bride and a father of the bride slip and fall on petals on the church.  These were different weddings.  i skipped petals for our wedding for this reason.
  • Real petals would likely not be allowed by your venue due to the possibility of staining. Silk petals would cause a slipping hazard. This past week I attended a wedding with hardwood floors and this was exactly the issue for dancing. There were a few near misses If you use silk petals for your flower girl, have someone pick them up after the ceremony is completed.
  • It depends on the type of petals you use, some petals do stain not only the floors but clothing as well. They are some petals that don't stain but retain their colour and are light and airy, a prime example are bougainvillea petals. They won't be a slipping hazard as they would be with silk petal. The range of colours of bougainvillea petals can give a great contrast to your wedding colour scheme and also the hardwood as well. If you need more info please just let me know!
