Still trying to pick a venue - help!

We were leaning towards the St Louis Hotel for a lot of reasons - it's beautiful, convenient and priced well.  However, my daughter wants a fun wedding with a high energy level and lots of dancing and she is concerned that the couryard layout may make it difficult to dance.  Anyone attend a wedding there?  I have been looking at lots of photos on line taken there and other than the traditonal bride/groom family dances don't see many photos of others dancing.

We have been thinking of The Foundry.   Any suggestions about "fun" locations?
This is a destination wedding so we have been leaning towards all inclusive sites compared to rent everything separately.

Are we over thinking the St Louis?  We do like the FQ location
Help.

I would advise against the St. Louis Hotel.  We considered them, and decided to stay there one night to test it out.  They lost our reservation and it took about 20 minutes for them to locate it and then when we got into our room, the headboard had fallen off of the wall and was lying on the bed.  Maybe it was just a bad night, but I wasn't impressed.  Good luck!

My reception is at Southport Hall which is a live music venue.  Its uptown and not in the french quarter though which you probably want. Its all inclusive with GREAT prices. I wanted a party with tons of dancing and a band with all the alcohol you could think of. It has a big stage. Its not a typical wedding venue and isnt very "weddingly" though. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

Had my reception at the Wax Musuem -- there's a huge room upstairs. Very fun and right in the Quarter. Loved working with Beth.

I've been to a wedding at the St. Louis.  The food was good and the dance area was small, but fine for the size of the wedding which was about 70 people.  Any more than that and I think it would have been cramped.  The Foundry is fabulous!  Pat O's on the River is another fun place that is all inclusive and in the Quarter.

I'm doing my wedding at The Chicory.  It's on South Peters near Harrah's Casino.  It's a little outside the French Quarter but still close enough that guests can easily get to it.  It's a beautiful venue.  Our room blocks are at the W on Poydras & the Ambassador.  Both hotels are only 2 blocks from the venue.  I went to a tasting and the food was great. I would strongly recommend The Chicory.  Plus, Cindy is amazing to work with!

Thanks to everyone.  We're planning 100 - 125 so St Louis may be too small for dancing.   I'm going to check a couple of these options.

Latrobe's is a beautiful venue that will take care of everything for you.  They have a courtyard and a more formal ballroom type of room for dinner.  Loads of character and it's in the FQ.  Unfortunately it was booked for our date.  I think it holds up to 150 people or so.  I think some other brides who have gotten married there have posted reviews about it on this board so you might want to do a search.  Good luck!

I second rosy's jazz hall. It's a venue with a bit of funk. And they're pretty reasonably priced. Latrobe's is BEAUTIFUL, especially the carriageway and courtyard, but...when I contacted them, I was not happy with the gentleman I spoke with trashing my opinions on what I wanted my wedding to be. They were also a bit out of my price range. You also wouldn't be able to hold the wedding on saturday, as you wouldn't meet the minimums for the venue. If you have any questions feel free to PM me, I can pass along the information I've gathered as well as contacts for them.

We are having our reception at the Parkview Terrace in City Park.  It's a nice space, and the park is really scenic.  We are having 100-150 guests.  150 is the maximum occupancy for that venue, but there are a few more spots in City Park that you could check out as well.  They have on-site catering packages, and though we haven't done our menu tasting, I've heard nothing but good things about the food so far.  Good luck, and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.

The St. Louis actually has a ton of rooms that open up - they just require minimums to use certain ones. I'm using the Rosbpierre room and the courtyard, which I think is fine for around 80 guests. They have 4 more rooms that can be used in addition to the other room, so I've seen all kinds of band set ups that looked great.

Thanks again to everyone.  There is so much to think about.  I feel like once we get this settled the rest should be a piece of cake !  LOL

I am also using Rosy's Jazz Hall and so far I'm loving it!! Not in the quarter, but blocking rooms in quarter and using a shuttle bus.

This was our runner up. The park is beautiful, and would be great because it shows out of town people a side of Nola that they probably wouldn't expect. If they are staying a day or two anyhow, I'm sure they'll check out the Quarter on their own time. The only reason we didn't choose it was because we were looking for an outdoor reception and more of a courtyard laid back feel. I still to this day am disappointed that my ceremony will not be at the Peristlye, but we plan to do pictures there to make up for that.

    Hope you find something suitable!

I should add, we chose the Benachi House and Gardens. It holds up to 150. It is beautiful, it is courtyard feeling, but there is still an area that is a dancefloor, so it may be worth looking into. Although, it is not an all inclusive type deal, you would have to bring in a caterer.
