HELP!!!!!!! Reception drama!

This morning I was greeted with a lovely email stating that with 45 days to go we were no longer able to use the venue for our reception!  I am beside myself with grief, disappointment, and frustration at the thought of having to find a whole new venue location with less than two months to go!  I find it very hard to believe that they did not know they were not planning to renew the lease back in March when we signed the contract!

We have printed and shipped almost $350 worth of invitations, itineraries, and maps all with the location details on them.  In addition we also purchased almost $300 in returnable glasses for the venue because they were not providing them.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a Manhattan loft space?  We were paying $2500 for the space and cannot afford to go much higher.  The space would only be for dancing, drinking, and dessert for approx. 60 guests.

We are having a sit down dinner at our favorite restaurant however, it is too small to accommodate the full blown reception. We have already signed contacts with a DJ, bartender, and caterer.

HELP!!!   I can't believe I have to find a new venue in less than two months...all suggestions would be appreciated!

try ramscale loft. That's terrible! is there a clause in your contract for breach? If one of you decide to renege on the contract?

After you are married make sure you sue the them in small claims court to receive back all of your money for everything you have to redo. You can simply send an email to let everyone know the new place & directions. I would also place a sign outside of that venue on the day of to let people know that the wedding has moved to a new location.

I'll see if I can find any other place but since its last minute you may consider having an outdoor wedding in a park like setting.

That is really ridiculous.  I'm so sorry.

We loved our venue - the MPE Penthouse.  Though I think on a Saturday it's a little higher than you wanted to spend.

We had also checked out the Dumbo Loft when we were in the planning process.  Not exactly Manhattan I know, but if I recall correctly it was more reasonable than any other lofts we looked at.

Definitely let other brides know which venue it was that booted you out!!!

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this! Maybe try the Midtown Loft and Terrace on Fifth. I looked at the space about a year ago, so I don't remember what the rates are but it's worth looking into. Good luck!

I spoke to ramscale & they're asking for $7500 so that's not an option.

Midtown loft maybe or Terrace on Fifth might work, beautiful spaces but might be more $$$
Try Astra, it's not a loft but they had a nice price point and if it's short notice and they have opening then it might work..
Maybe you should also look into people renting ot their personal lofts in Tribeca.. You can definitely discuss the price and could bring in your own dessert caterer;-)
Also not a loft but City Hall Restaurant has a beautiful private dining room ( The Rose room) that would fit your budget ( they might even throw in wine for it) and they have great service.. Not a loft but it's on Manhattan and also have great picture options..Trbicea is so romantic for pictures..Another fun and affordable place is the Bubble Lounge in tribeca. They have this great downstairs private area as well and they usually have a DJ on weekends so you could get that for free;-) Anything that is rental space or catered space will hike your price up. Restaurants are so much more affordable and usually you don't have to worry about the music nor decorating it and food, dessert, service and china is included..

I am so sorry to hear about your drama, it's just wrong! I mean everything is so expensive and also everyone needs to book loooong ahead and then this happens.. Did you have insurance by any chance? Good luck!

At this point we are looking at independent loff rentals for the night.  We cannot just have the party portion of the evening in the park because there will be drinking, music, etc.  All things that the parks dept. forbids.  We also cannot just have it in the restaurant because we have alreayd signed a contract with a restaurant that we planned on using before the big party at the loft.

MPE and Ramscale are booked.  And Midtown loft basically told me that our party of 60 was not worth their time.

I am just worried because EVERYONE is flying in.   Over half of our guest list is coming from England.  We can't just have a ceremony and dinner.  That would be such a disappointment to everyone who made the trip, not to mention a disappointment to us.

The loft that screwed us over is called the Loft on 5th http://www.chabadwashingtonsquare.com/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/148393/jewish/Chabad-Loft.htmwww.chabadwashingtonsquare.com/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/148393/jewish/Chabad-Loft.htm" target="_blank" title="Loft on 5th">

shoppergirl, that is AWFUL.  I'm imagining what would happen if our venue cancelled on us.  There are a ton of great restaurant venues in NYC, so the fact that you can't use a restaurant for a venue is pretty limiting.

You know, since the Loft cancelled on you, you may have the right to cancel the contract with the restaurant without a penalty, and the Loft owes you whatever difference increase in price there is for the new venue you choose.  A good lawyer might be able to help you out here.  You've got options!  If you like, I can convince my fiancee (husband in 13 months and a few days!) to write a letter for you.  He's a commercial litigator, so he live and breathes contracts.

GOOD LUCK! And let me know if you need any help.
