Wedding Woes

WWWWG? If WW was planning a 'family vacation'

for my folks, my sisters, the Mr, Buffy, myself...
where would you go?

Buffy is the only kid.
Mom will be done w/ treatment by then.
The parents are active, not at all 'artsy' and they aren't fun to visit cities with.

My sisters are 'active' but not sporty--they're rather thinking the islands/someplace warm and somewhat tropical.

I don't do water.  (I'll suck it up and go wherever we go but I do NOT do water.  I can swim but I hate everything about having to be in water)--for this reason, the island/beach/whatever doesn't appeal to me at ALL (I've gone along on more than enough beachy-things in my life and I suck it up but I don't like it.  I turn lobster red, I have panic attacks if I'm in water...just, nothing pleasant about it for me)

I'm not picturing any sort of 'romatic' getaway, all things considered.

We've got like a week and the budget is pretty fluid.

Any suggestions?
(the only one I've thrown out there that the sisters are 'meh' about is 'go out west to dude ranch')

What about some mountains?  Gatlinburg or Blue Ridge Mountains somewhere.  UP of Michigan?  There is some water activity, but certainly not a typical beachy place.  Williamsburg.

mountains might be workable...but all us kids ahve 'done' those recently.  (and my sisters only tend to go there when they can ski)--It still might be workable to do if I can show them that tehre is 'stuff to do' that they wont' find boring (they're easily bored.  There's a hard-to-articulate dynamic here)

(I should add, this is complicated by the fact that we're often pretty 'been there, done that' about this--I mean, we've driven through 45 states and 5 provinces together.  We've *really* been there and done that for just about anything you can come up with)

I've heard the Canadian Rockies are nice.
National Park? (Acadia in Maine is really pretty)

Cape Cod national seashore (Provincetown is artsy, and there's a lot of stuff to do besides beach)

It may be more kid-oriented, but we love St. Louis.  There's lots of stuff to do there.  This is what we did when we spent a week there in 2007.

    Zoo
    6 Flags
Anheuser Busch Brewery Tour - it's really interesting
    City Museum
    Magic House
    Baseball game
Arch - Free to visit, fee to go up
Grant's Farm - Pay to park, free admission
    Union Station for shopping

ETA:  We also went to the World Aquarium.  It was cool, but sort of small.

we've done Gaitlinberg and St. Louis pretty throughly, but not as adults.  I ll throw those out there and Cape Cod
I voted Chicago but got shot down.
I liked Acadia...I don't think the sisters did.  (I loved the bay of Funday)

We haven't been (together--my sisters have been on their own to some of these) to CA, UT, alaska, Hawaii and...tehre was debate about another one out toward California...I think I forget and we're at 46 states.

There's a really nice resort area in the mountains around  McGaheysville, VA.   I think it's only an hour or so to DC, if you wanted to do a day trip.

    Grand Canyon?
Northern California is nice too. Wine country, Monterey, Big Sur. All beautiful and fun places that don't require getting in the water.

I was going to suggest mountains, or a city right outside a state or national park. That way you guys could split up for a couple of days - city people go to a museum or zoo or something, swimmy people hit up a lake - and you could do light hikes and nature trails all together. <div>
</div><div>Obviously I think you should come to the Rockies, but anywhere with a decent park and a city is a good bet. </div>

There is *nothing* near the Grand Canyon. It's four hours to PHX, and nobody wants to be there in August.

The way our weather's been, though, there might still be skiing then.

well, odds ARE increasing we're heading out to Loveland around the holidays...between Christmas and new years maybe?

I would love to re-do the GC...we missed half of it because of an escaped murderer who decided to try to live in the canyon.
