I painted this morning. :) And I ran this morning. So it's all good.

GPB - I have to love anyone who supports the White Knot campaign.

1337 / Sun - I thought you were a cool newb before I left! :) Didn't realize your name changed. Good to know!

The baby thing is still a new idea. And we need to handle the getting married thing first. Then on to scheduled s*x! How exciting! :)

Kat - Ha! The business travel is going to make the Momma Paint thing difficult. "Excuse me, client X, but my temp is up so I need to run home tonight, shag a few times, then I can come back to work. See ya!"   :)

And if the doc even STARTS to discuss injectable drugs, I'm out. No multiples here please!

Obviously Mutley is a pro at baby making. It only took her two months! Fastest knocker-upper this side of the Mississippi.

Paint, I am so glad you're back! I was scared you left forever. :(

I'm not sure Mutley even needed DH to make the baby, she's that good.

I avoided this thread for awhile because I thought it was a noob - Paint!  Welcome back!

Don't know if you were a Georgetown Cupcake fan when you were in DC, but they have a brand new TV show on TLC debuting tonight.  DC Cupcakes or some such name.  Should be good!

And congrats on baby-making in the future!  Wooo hooo!

Jeana - I saw the pics from your wedding! It looked beautiful! I hope you enjoyed the day.

I've heard Mutley has these secret powers! I'm definitely not ready to talk baby making just yet, although my doctor did remind me I'm not getting any younger. (And I had endo scraped out last year - the farther you get from the surgery the more likely the tissue has regrown and will cause trouble.) Time will tell!

Hetshup - I'm not very knowledgable outside the Beltway. (I think if you're leaving the Beltway you should just fly.)

Where will FI be working? IAD? And your new job is in Annapolis?

He will be at IAD (Dulles?) and I will be working within blocks of the Navel Academy. So on opposite sides. Hey, you're doing better then me, I've never even been to that area. And you and I should MEET!

Wow! Definitely different sides of the world. The question comes down to commute time and what you're looking for in a home environment. I assume your schedule will be more regular - M-F 9-5 kind of thing and his will be more unpredictable. Does he have to live within so many minutes or miles of the airport?

If you want to have a fun home life and are willing to drive a few extra minutes, look for something in DC. You'd be reverse-commuting, against normal traffic, but all traffic in DC is a nightmare so don't get too excited. Most areas in the northwest quadrant of DC will be ok. Northeast is typically scary so even though it would shave a few minutes off, I can't recommend it.

If you want to keep drive time to a minimum for both of you, consider Silver Spring, Bethesda, or College Park. All three have very high end, older homes, all the way down to small apartments. Some areas are a little scary if you aren't a city gal, but that ranges from block to block in most of the DC area. All three will be suburban environments - shopping malls, chain restaurants, etc, though College Park will have more young people to hang out with (because of the college).

Craig's List is the ultimate in DC apartment listings, especially if you aren't looking for a highrise situation. You'll find in-law suites, English basement apartments, and more variety on Craig's List.

College Park can be awesome.  However, areas of it have become a little, um... ghetto in recent years.  It IS in PG County after all.  If you do look in CP at all, I can give you a street by street rundown.

If you can afford it, I vote for Bethesda.  I <3 it there.  I used to work in that area.

Paint, do you know when they plan on finishing the ICC?

    Hetshup-

I agree with basicalyl everything Paint said...

Bethesda is a great "family town" with a cute city center.  Try Rockville, perhaps?  It's really up-and-coming, lots of great restaurants, metro accessible, and you can easily get to both Annapolis and Dulles (as well as DC, for fun).

North of DC is rather suburban-city-ish (town community feel, but big city accessibility).  I'm a big fan of Bethesda and Chevy Chase and Rockville.  College Park is where the University of Maryland is located, so you've got the benefits and negatives of a college town (lots of stuff, lots of kids).

The further west of DC you go, the more farm-country it becomes.  There's still suburban areas (Falls Church, Fairfax, etc.) but to me, it's a less desirable place to live than north of the city - where you can have easier access to both DC and Baltimore.  Avoid commuting on Rt 66 or US 495 (beltway) if you can help it - those two are the worst!

If he's on reserve, he needs to be at the plane in 90 min. I just found out they are giving me a real estate agent, so that should really help, but you know I'm going to ask a bunch of questions.

    But thanks!

Thanks KD! :) The "making" part seems like a good deal to me. The rest of it (like the part where the kid comes out and I have to do something with it) is terrifying!
