Venue Poll Pen Ryn vs Glen Foerd

Hi guys these are my top two venue choices. I've read some feedback about Pen Ryn and people have good things to say I haven't read much about Glen Foerd.  Just curious which venue you would go with and why? And if you looked at both places what was the deciding factor?

Thanks in advance!

I voted for Pen Ryn, but I am biased as I had my wedding there in October.  (ETA - I did not look at GF.)

I looked at both and voted for Pen Ryn.

I might be a little biased too because I have been to a couple weddings and Pen Ryn and I have seen how beautiful it can be.  Also, we looked at Pen Ryn BEFORE we found our venue.  We looked at Glen Foerd 2 hours after we had pretty much decided on Normandy, so we were kinda like "eh."

Also, I didn't love the way Glen Foerd was set up-- it felt kinda choppy whereas I thought Pen Ryn flowed a little better.  And I also think Glen Foerd smelled funny. But I'm just wierd.

Honestly, you really need to go with your gut.  Without thinking about it, which one pops into your head first?  That's the one you pick.

I actually looked at both places.  I really liked both and found good things and bad things about both.  I thought Glen Foerd had more of a reasonable price.  I thought you got more bang for your buck there and I absolutely loved the room were the dancing took place.  What I didn't like was the fact that you would have the dinner in one room and then dancing in another room.  I wanted people to be dancing throughout the dinner so that would not be possible there.  The people were extremely helpful and friendly.  We were actually about to book there, but then decided against it just because we found a place more in a budget.  Also, they allow you to go to a tasting before you book and the dinners are amazing. If you are getting married at the mansion you are right on the river with Glen Foerd which is always a beautiful sight. With Penn Ryn we looked at it but did not do anything else.  We thought it was very expensive and you were not getting as much.  Also if it is outdoors it seems like two weddings will clash at the same time with the mansion next door.  You are also by the river which could make for great pictures, but if you are getting married there the ceremony is not directly by the river like Glen Foerd.  I also did not have the best experience with the staff there.  They seemed like they had better things to do than to show us around and we felt rushed.  We did not sample the food because we did not pursue them, but I have heard great things about their food.  Penn Ryn also seemed a little more taken care of in the inside and more up to date.  It has an actual ballroom too unlike Glen Foerd.  All in all it depends on what you want and your budget because the prices are different.  We liked both places, but we were more willing to pursue Glen Foerd than Penn Ryn.

I'm getting married at Glen Foerd this year.  We did not look at Penn Ryn so I habe no experience with them.  We are having a smaller wedding and I personally like having dinner and one room and dancing in another, as I didn't want dancing bewtween courses. Also - I don't think it smells funny. lol
The people we've worked with have been nothing but super nice and helpful.  We did a tasting and the food is good - not great - in my opinion.  I also liked that everything is included from valet parking, greeting guests with win after the ceremony, of course all the food, alcohol, etc.  We just had our details meeting and they are informing us now that they no longer allow candles - this really bother me so just FYI.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Do a google search for "glen foerd wedding blogs" and "penn ryn wedding blogs" to see photographers real weddings from there to get a good idea of what each looks like.

I didn't vote, but I don't think you can go wrong with either one! We liked them both, and probably would have selected one of them if we hadn't gone with a place at my grandmother's country club.

When we were looking, Glen Foerd said they could do both dinner and dancing in the conservatory, but I think that depends on the size of your party. In that respect, it was like having a ballroom without the ballroom feel. At the same time, there are many different levels in that space, so if you have people who have difficulty with stairs, it might be tough for them to move around.

And of course at Pen Ryn you get the best of both worlds with the cocktail hour in the historic part of the mansion and then dinner/dancing in one large space. And those front rooms are ah-maz-ing.

The outside of both places are stunning, and I think you'd get wonderful pictures at either location.

It's interesting, as when we were looking, the prices seemed very comparable. I think it's just what has more of the look and feel of what you're going for!

Both venues are really beautiful--if you are having a smaller wedding Glen Foerd is very nice and intimate, but if you are having a larger wedding then the guests are separated in different rooms during dinner.  I loved the separate rooms for dinner and dancing at Glen Foerd, but Pen Ryn is also very nice.
May I suggest you check out Aldie Mansion if you have not already--I was married there last year and loved the vintage vibe of it.

I went to a wedding at Glen Foerd a few years ago.  The outside is gorgeous and the ceremony space is nicer, IMO, than Pen Ryn.  I didn't like that the food at GF was in one room and we went to the area to dance later.  That area was beautiful though.  I also didn't like the the dance floor was stone (if I remember correctly.)  I think inside Pen Ryn is nicer and it does have a pretty outside.  But both are beautiful, so it's really a personal choice.
