Outdoor Ceremony Music?

This is just dawning on me.....good thing our date is not until September!

We are planning an outdoor ceremony.  It will only be 20 - 25 people (our immediate families & a couple of close friends).

But, my question is, how would we do some music?  Like to walk down the aisle to?  Or do we just not do any music?  Anyone have any ideas on this?

Re: Outdoor Ceremony Music?

  • There are a lot of options for ceremony music, and it all depends GREATLY on your budget.

If you are hiring a DJ for the reception, many DJs also offer to do music for your ceremony and they bring their own sound equipment.

If you don't want a DJ to do your ceremony/aren't having one/can't afford it, you could always rent some sound equipment yourself and set it up at your ceremony site.  Look online for sound equipment rentals in your area.  I am not sure of the budget on this, though.

If your budget is REALLY small, you could always try to get some good portable speakers (borrowed from a guest/relative/friend) and hook them up to a laptop even.. With such a small number of guests this could work as well.
  • i was wondering the same thing!! my FI and i are creating 2 playlists on his iPod... one for the ceremony and one for the reception. a friend of mine i wanted involved in wedding but already have too many BMs is going to be MCing everything, so we're happy to have a place for her in the wedding [: We are looking around now for speakers.

  • Our DJ gave us a huge discount for booking the ceremony along with the reception. Our venue has bushes behind the gazebo, so the dj hides back there. It wasn't my first choice, but the price was too good to pass up.

  • I'm also having a small wedding of 25 to 30 people in March. We hired a solo cellist to play at our ceremony and a classical guitarist to play during our lunch reception. For a the ceremony you can get a solo musician for around a couple of hundred bucks, but I think it's a nice, romantic touch to an intimate affair.

We are hired a classical guitarist for about 100 bucks an hour. Although, we toyed with the idea of just getting a classical guitarist cd to play as background music during the lunch reception since we are not doing the traditional DJ thing.

  • I'm having a beach ceremony and no reception, and I am having the same questions, so I'll be on the look out for answers as well!
  • If you have the funds, a string trio is really nice at outdoor (heck, any) wedding.  Otherwise, I'd say use a CD player or ipod.
