non-edible favors and PIP

So out of curiosity how many of you are actually against non-edible favors or favors altogether? Do you prefer edible favors?

I don't know if it's a cultural thing but I don't think I could give an edible favor as the only favor. I agree that sometimes you get junk but I remember growing up my mother's curio cabinet being full of personalized little pocelain knick knacks.  She did eventually get rid of a lot of them but she kept the most significant.

That being said, while I wouldn't want some useless knick knack  I do want to give my guests something to remember the wedding by so I've chosen a mug.  There will be 4 different mugs that will have love written in English, Italian; Spanish or German (these are the different languages we know and so i feel we  learned to love in these languages).

here are the mugs (shown in other languages)

and here's the personalization:

would you consider this another useless knick knack and get rid of it or would you use it?  Fiance and I actually like mugs very much and we've started a starbucks mug collection together Tongue Out.    I'd love to hear your opinions!  TIA!

  • I'd take one. Mugs come in handy. We're doing shot glasses. If people don't take them, oh well, I have a shitton of shot glasses lol.

  • FI would die over this! He's such a coffee guy and he's even gotten into collecting mugs. I like how your date is incorporated.. small, initials and doesn't require your immediate attention haha. I recently saw a picture of favor mugs with the B&G on the bottom that I thought was cute..

But I still like where you chose to have your initials too, it's the perfect little spot. As a favor, I love it! I mean even if you don't drink coffee, you could still use it for tea, hot chocolate, juice, soup... seriously, who couldn't use a mug!

I've even thought about this for us since he and his family love coffee mugs so much, so I might be a little biased haha.
  • I tend to be in the edible favors camp, but I absolutely love your mugs! I could always use more coffee mugs and I especially love the different languages to make it more personalized. Adorable!

  • I like the size of the mugs, something substantial! I also like that it's while guests will think of you as they use it, it doesn't scream "WEDDING FAVOR" to any house guests afterward.
  • Love. It.

    Hahaha very true!

Nancy can I ask you where you're getting these mugs? I do like them very much..!
  • I personally don't like favors at all, just a waste of money IMO. But I know I'm in the minority camp here.

However, I do love love LOVE mugs, FI and I collect them as well, so it's a favor I would use.

100% agree with this and with whoever said that they dont scream wedding favor.  I love the idea of a mug and think that how you are including your date and initials in a small font is a great idea!
  • Yay!!  Thank you everyone!  I found them on Etsy.  It was funny because I had been talking to a friend about favors and first we thought wine and then somehow mugs came up and I google "mug love different languages" and they came up!

I've been talking with the artist/designer and she's super nice!

  • I love these!!! I usually don't like  non-edible favors, even if they're half-useful but ugly, but these are very useful, and they fit into every household. Go for them!

Also, for those who like these but rather DIY than buy, I recommend buying plain mugs, for example from IKEA or somewhere else, and using porcelain paint, really easy.

  • I don't usually like non-edible favors, but I love these. You really thought about guests and came up with something they will actually use! I just don't the ones that are super obvious about being a wedding favor. I don't need crap with your name on it! I think you did it in a great way and people will love it.

  • I usually prefer edible favors over non-edbile favors, but I love these.  I would definitely like this as a guest since I love coffee mugs and have a huge abundance of mis matched mugs.

  • LOVE these! Great choice! We have mugs from all over as my daughter collects them from places she has been .. I think its totally a great idea!
  • I love the mug idea!!!  and we aren't doing edible favors...the photobooth is our favor to our guests!!  Wanted to do the magnet photostrips..but the extra $150 is going towards other things right now!

yep, this is exactly me. i am in the "edible favors" or "no favors" camp all the way, and i am sick of receiving pointless trinkets like ceramic statues or useless picture frames. however, i LOVE coffee and collect coffee mugs, so i would be thrilled to receive one of these as a favor and i would actually use it.
  • I love mugs, I'd be happy to have them if I was a guest!

  • I think it is a cute idea. We were initally going to do shot glasses with personalized m&m's then found out how much those actually cost and we say no. So I found some beach theme celophane bags on orential trading and we are going to fill them with swedish fish at least this way we know that the favors are being put to use instead of shoved in a drawer or cabinet.

  • I like the mugs! Cute, match any house (neutral and cute writing), and useful! We're doing cute organic soaps so if people don't take them we'll just be super clean. If people forget yours you can just have coffee every day while remembering your wedding.
  • LOVE the mugs!  I'm doing personalized wine charms.  Our wedding already has a wine theme and I thought these would come in handy during the reception for people to keep track of their own glass and we have lots of wine drinking friends so I think they'll use them afterwards as well.
